This week’s theme: Joy!

Joy is something that the Holy Spirit has developed in my life immensely in the last few years and for that I couldn’t be more grateful.

There’s not many feelings like the feeling of joy and I feel that God designed it that way intentionally; that when we begin to see things from the right perspective we no longer will feel like we have to keep searching for happiness

If you too have ever experienced the joy of the Lord my challenge for you this week is to try to share that experience with someone in a conversation! Praying God gives you opportunities and the boldness to share His joy!

The farmers were definitely onto something with this one…

Functional exercise: Farmer’s carry (Farmer’s walks)
Target muscles: Core, Forearms, Traps, Rhomboids, Rear Delts

What makes it functional?
-This exercise mimics daily movements that involve carrying items at your sides like carrying groceries or shopping bags, carrying duffle bags to the gym or through an airport
-Works to improve core stabilization: resisting movements in multiple planes… flexion, extension and lateral motion, while supporting the spine under load
-Works to improve postural strength: uses postural muscles in the back and shoulders to support the weight at your sides

Recommendations:
-Start with a lighter weight: aim for roughly 50% of your bodyweight split between the two weights, so 25% in each hand
⁃Start with 3-4 sets of shorter distances (20–40m) which should take 30-60s to complete. Rest for 1 minute in between sets
⁃Alternatively you can pick up the weight, walk as long as you can (until failure) then rest and walk back to where you started, rest and repeat for 2-3 sets if able.
⁃To progress this move you can increase weight, increase the distance, time walked or a combination!
⁃Consider adding onto the end of your workouts 2 times a week.

✨Word Wednesday✨has now become ✨Thoughtful Thursday✨

This week’s fruit of the spirit: Love

You may or may not know but the New Testament has several words for love. There’s eros—a romantic love shared between a husband and wife. Storge—familial love shared between family members. Philia—brotherly love shared between close friends. And then there’s the agape love, the highest form of love. This love is an unconditional, sacrificial love and is often used to describe God’s character and the love that He shows. It is a love of choice.

The love Paul refers to in the fruit of the spirit is “agape” love.
To understand what this love looks like we can look at the Bible as a whole: the Bible is essentially one long story about God’s love for the people He created. After creating Adam and Eve He provided them everything they would ever need in life in the garden of Eden, like a loving parent provides for their child. When they disobeyed Him, He didn’t instantly scrap them and start over; He showed mercy and began to reveal His plan to reconcile their mistake immediately (Genesis 3:15). He chose the Israelites (and later on gentiles as well) to be His people and pursued them even as they rejected him time and time again. Ultimately, Jesus entered into our world to fully and visibly demonstrate the love of God by dying in our place and serving the sentence that we deserved (Romans 5:8). And now through that sacrifice we can be reunited with Him on both sides of eternity, and eventually we’ll get to go back to how He originally designed for things to be all along, when we accept that love that He has for us! (John 3:16-18)

So how do we allow ourselves to be good soil for this fruit?
Before the week ends I encourage you to read the verse above. Every time the word “love” appears, replace it with your name. Do those statements still hold true? For the aspects that don’t, run to God with them! Ask Him to change your heart, to water your fruit of love, to help you to love the way He loves!
