Social dancing can be SCARY when you’re new. 😅

You spend weeks learning in class where there’s a teacher, everyone is practicing the same thing, and you know exactly what you’re supposed to be doing.

Then someone tells you, “Okay… now go dance with strangers.” 😂

But social dancing is also where so much of the magic happens.

You stop trying to get everything perfect. You learn to adapt to different partners. Your timing gets better. Your confidence grows. You start recognizing people. You laugh through mistakes. And eventually, the thing that used to make you nervous becomes something you look forward to all week. ❤️

A few things I always tell newer dancers:

❤️ You don’t have to be “good enough” before you go social dancing.
💃 Start with just a few dances. You don’t have to stay all night.
🕺 Dance with people who make you feel comfortable and respected.
😂 If you mess up, smile and keep going. Everyone does.
🙌 Pick socials where beginners are welcomed, not judged.
❤️ Go with classmates if that makes the first few times easier.

And most importantly, social dancing is supposed to be FUN.

That’s a huge part of the culture we try to create at Toronto Dance Salsa. A place where you can be brand new, have two left feet, lose the beat, forget everything you learned five minutes ago 😂 and still feel like you belong.

Every Saturday we host our Salsa Loves Bachata Social in North York:

💃 7:30 PM All Level Salsa lesson
❤️ 8:15 PM All Level Bachata lesson
🎉 9:00 to 11:30 PM social dancing
💵 $15 cash at the door
🙌 No registration required
📍 Toronto Dance Salsa, North York Centre

Come nervous. Come imperfect. Come with whatever level you have.

Confidence doesn’t come before you do the scary thing. A lot of the time, it comes because you did it. ❤️

You think you’re signing up to learn a few Salsa moves… and then somehow it becomes the best part of your week. ❤️

You come in wanting to learn how to dance, but somewhere along the way you start gaining confidence. You meet people you never would have met otherwise. You laugh. You get out of your head. You move your body. You forget about whatever kind of day you had. You start recognizing faces. Those faces become friends. And suddenly you have somewhere you genuinely look forward to going every week.

That’s the part of Salsa nobody really explains to you before you start.

The dancing is amazing. But the confidence, energy, connection, friendships and sense of belonging that come with it? That’s the stuff that keeps you coming back. 🥹

And if you’re thinking, “Yeah, but I have two left feet…” PERFECT. 😂

Our Salsa and Bachata classes in Toronto are built for adult beginners. No experience needed. No partner needed. Just show up and we’ll teach you from the beginning.

Come for the dance moves. You might be surprised by everything else you find. ❤️💃🕺

The family you get to choose. ❤️

One of the most unexpected things about learning to dance is how quickly the people you meet can become part of your life.

You start as strangers.

Then you’re seeing each other every week. Going for food after class. Dancing together on weekends. Celebrating birthdays. Checking in when someone disappears. Sending each other ridiculous dance videos at 2 AM. 😂

Eventually, you realize you’re talking to your dance friends more than your own family.

And honestly… that’s kind of beautiful.

Because as adults, finding your people isn’t always easy. Dance gives us a reason to consistently show up, share something we love, laugh together, grow together and actually build real friendships.

You might walk into your first class alone.

But you don’t have to stay that way. ❤️

Sometimes you come for the dancing and accidentally find your people.

, just go back ❤️

You DON’T need dance shoes to learn Salsa. ❤️

Seriously. Come in wearing whatever makes you feel comfortable. You don’t need special shoes, fancy clothes, a dance partner or any previous experience to take your first Salsa class.

But there is something that always makes me smile as an instructor…

Watching someone eventually buy their first pair of dance shoes. 😂

Because I know what usually happened before that moment.

They originally signed up thinking:

“I just want to try something new.”

They walked into Salsa Level 1 nervous. Maybe convinced they had two left feet. Maybe wondering if everyone else would be better than them.

Then something starts changing.

They get more confident.

They start looking forward to class every week.

They make friends.

They come to their first Salsa social.

Then another one.

And eventually they walk into class wearing their first pair of dance shoes and I’m thinking…

Ohhhhh. We got another one. 😂❤️

Dance shoes don’t make you a dancer.

But buying that first pair almost feels like a little rite of passage. It’s the moment where Salsa goes from “this fun thing I do for an hour every week” to…

“I think I want this to be part of my life.”

And THAT is one of my favourite things to see.

At Toronto Dance Salsa, our beginner classes are about so much more than learning steps. They’re about building confidence, meeting people, having fun and hopefully finding a community where you feel like you belong.

Two left feet? Perfect. 😂
No partner? You don’t need one.
No dance shoes? Come exactly as you are. ❤️

No matter how many times I’ve “cheated” on Salsa… I keep coming back. 😂❤️

And trust me, I’ve tried other dances.

But there’s just something about Salsa.

It’s not just that you can travel around the world and find Salsa communities filled with people who share the same love for this dance.

It’s not just that you can walk into class exhausted from your day and somehow walk out an hour later physically tired but completely recharged. 😂

It’s the music.

It’s the challenge of learning something you once thought you could never do.

It’s the confidence that slowly starts showing up outside the dance floor too.

It’s asking a complete stranger to dance and three minutes later both of you are smiling.

It’s walking into a room where you barely know anyone and eventually realizing you somehow know everyone. ❤️

And maybe that’s why I keep coming back.

Because somewhere along the way Salsa stopped being something I do and became a place where I belong.

So don’t worry, Salsa. Bachata and I are just friends. 👀😂❤️

When the Salsa instructor is incredible… but you understood exactly 0% of the explanation 😂

Anyone can demonstrate a move.

Teaching it is something completely different.

One of the things I’ve learned after years of teaching Salsa is that communication matters just as much as knowledge.

Can you explain something simply?
Can you say it a different way when someone doesn’t understand?
Can you recognize why someone is struggling instead of just showing the move again?

Because students shouldn’t leave class thinking, “Maybe I’m just bad at this.”

Sometimes they just haven’t had it explained in a way that clicks yet.

That’s a huge part of our culture at Toronto Dance Salsa. ❤️

We build our Salsa and Bachata classes around regular adults learning from scratch. No assumed rhythm. No assumed dance experience. No expectation that you’ll magically “just get it.”

Two left feet? Great.
Coming alone? No partner needed.
Never danced before? That’s literally who Salsa Level 1 is for.

Great dancing makes you want to watch. Great teaching makes you believe you can do it too.

A little healthy competition never hurt anybody 😂🏆

One of the best parts about learning Salsa is having people around you who push you to get better.

You see your classmates improving. You celebrate when someone finally gets that move they’ve been struggling with. You challenge each other. You laugh at each other. 😂 And somehow, week after week, everybody gets better together.

That’s the kind of culture we want at Toronto Dance Salsa. ❤️

Not competition where someone has to lose.

Competition where everyone raises the bar together.

If you’ve been thinking about learning Salsa in Toronto, our Salsa Level 1 classes are made specifically for adult beginners.

Two left feet? Perfect. 😂
No dance partner needed.
No previous dance experience needed.
Come by yourself and meet your people.

The height difference was already questionable… then the heels came out. 😂👠

One of my favourite things about Bachata/Salsa is that none of this actually matters. Taller, shorter, heels, sneakers, experienced, brand new… you figure it out, laugh about it, and keep dancing. ❤️

And ladies, you absolutely do not need heels to learn Bachata/Salsa. Wear whatever makes you feel comfortable and confident, especially when you’re starting.

Our classes in Toronto are built for adult beginners, including the ones convinced they have two left feet. 😂

No dance partner needed.
No previous dance experience needed.
Just come as you are.

Because confidence comes first. The dancing follows. 💃🕺❤️

09/01/2026

Sometimes you don’t need advice. You don’t need to solve everything. You just need someone to ask…

“Do you want to dance?” 🥹❤️

That’s one of the things I love most about Salsa.

You can walk into the room after a terrible week, tired, stressed, completely in your own head… and somehow the music, the movement and the people pull you back out of it.

And that’s the culture we work really hard to build at Toronto Dance Salsa.

A place where people know your name.
Where someone notices you.
Where we cheer each other on.
Where beginners are celebrated.
Where confidence gets built one class and one dance at a time.

Because for us, Salsa has never just been about learning steps.

It’s about belonging. ❤️

Sometimes one dance really can be the pick me up you didn’t know you needed.

And if you’ve been thinking about learning, our Salsa Level 1 classes are built specifically for adult beginners. Two left feet? Perfect. 😂 No dance partner needed. Just show up. We’ll take care of the rest. 💃🕺
