Happy New Year, it was a busy year our lives since we chose to move from Toronto to Coldwater. The next chapter in our lives will mean more time for disc golf and promoting the sport in Southern Ontario. I am also proud to say that I am now an Innova ambassador. The growth of our sport at all levels can only lead to bigger and better things for all of us. It does not matter what discs we throw, it matters that we throw discs. Stay tuned for more regular updates, message me with any questions and also starting to set up my spring schedule for clinics and lessons.

Did you know disc golf courses will outnumber traditional golf courses in the U.S. by 2022? Millions play already, and all signs point to sustained growth for a sport that seems custom-built for the 21st century. In The Disc Golf Revolution author Jack Tupp interviews key figures and experts and ...

Today is as windy as I have seen it for quite some time. It is so windy that I would not even think of playing a casual round even if it was a little warmer. It is a good time to think about some points to remember when playing in the wind.

- Slow and slower, this is really when you want to be smooth and have a nice even tempo,

- Into the wind a low and slow drive will keep your disc in the fairway and you will be surprised how far the disc will go,

- Downwind make sure to use an understable driver and don't try to power it out there, again slow and use the wind angle to get the extra distance.

- For putting, aim high when going down wind and a conservative approach will prevent 3 putts and most likely gain strokes on the field.

- Pay attention to disc angle and wind direction, this is where a side arm as well as back throw can be extra helpful to let the wind be your friend.

- Enjoy the day, wind makes discs do some crazy things, but it is also why we love the game to let the discs fly.

Please share your comments and tips and see you out on the course,

I will be in Peterborough April 15th and Highlands Nordic outside of Collingwood on May 5th, please sign up for the clinic or message me if you are interested in the events.

A typical day working the SHAPE America Physical Education Convention consists of eight hours of standing, demonstrations, making personal connections, disseminating information about the virtues of disc golf, EDGE, and the Professional Disc Golf Association. After a long day of all things DG, with barely an hour and a half of sunlight left, what to do next becomes the question? More disc golf, of course! We rallied the booth crew, grabbed a few 135 gram Educational Disc Golf Experience (EDGE) Skeeters, and hit the nearest disc golf course. A fun challenge round at Shelby Park Naval Hill DGC in Nashville ensued. Naval Hill is a picturesque course, open with rolling hills, views the Cumberland River, and it’s just minutes from downtown. The round burgeoned for us at hole 11 when we stopped to let another group play through. Our birdie putts were suspended on the green as the group passed, slowed, and then had that “Aha” moment when they recognized who they were playing through. The local group consisted of members of the Music City Disc Golf Club who were playing a family and friends round while spot checking the course for an upcoming event. Our groups merged for the next few holes where stories were shared, putts missed, birdies made, pictures taken, and when we parted ways Des gave her only disc away to the kids. And that is how you close out a successful day at the National PE Convention!

I just received the latest issue of disc golfer Magazine, and it has a few tips on how to take your game to the next level. I am sure many of you are members of the PDGA and will read the same article but one point was to see your local pro and take a lesson. "Having a one on one session with an experienced player can do wonders for your game. Disc Golf is not easy to master and if you want to get good at it, you'll show improvement more quickly if you are taught the correct way, " Chandler Fry # 25541, send me a message if you are interested in a lesson or a series of lessons, I am also doing clinics across Ontario starting with Peterborough April 5th and Highlands Nordic May 5th, if your club is interested in a group clinic, send me a message as well. I have been out getting the cobwebs out and still just throwing my putters but getting back in shape, Happy Easter everyone

Since I am a fair weather or should I say I take the curling season off from playing disc golf, it allows me some time to reflect, visualize as well as watch lots of youtube disc golf. There are so many different ways of teaching, tips and pointers that it can get a little confusing, yet it is all part of gaining more knowledge and finding tidbits I can use in my own game as well as when I teaching. Just yesterday I posted Dave Dunipace's video on grip, and as I was watching it again, I adjusted my side arm grip a little. Felt better as I was sitting in my living room, kept playing with the positioning until I decided to throw a few today in my fancy winter coat, I easily had my best ever forehands, 300 feet plus, and these were my first throws of the season. I did wonder at times why my distance was lacking, yet I never thought that changing the grip would be it. I have thrown it this way for my entire career, PDGA # 4082, I can control and finesse them, but did not have the distance to really use it as a drive on most holes.

Moral of the story is simply that even when we manage or play fairly well, there could be a small tweak that will make a big difference, be it grip, foot work, follow through or anything else. This is why having a lesson or a friend look at your throw can make a nice difference and kick off the 2018 season in a surprisingly happy way,

If anyone is interested in a one on one or a group session, please contact me, as it stands I will be in Peterborough, London / St Thomas, Collingwood and who knows where else this spring.

Even if Paul does not say much, the great take away from this video is the planting of the front foot, for RHBH player, that would be your right foot,

Help everybody likes this. :-)

Congratulations to Sandra Marie, or Sandi Hendel on winning the PDGA Rookie of the year for 2017, Sandi has a very unique grip, one that would not be recommended by myself or any other teaching pro, but it is due to an issue from birth so nothing she can do about it. Makes this achievement even more outstanding and remarkable. I have also included a great video from Dave Dunipace, the inventor of the modern golf disc and a great player as well, he talks about grip and release.

Another video of a disc golf instructional series presented by Innova Champion Discs. Dave Dunipace (President of Innova Champion Discs) talks about the impo...
