I love making lei, it reminds me of braiding sweet grass. It’s the same love that goes into braiding sweet grass and braiding the hair of people I love, a sacredness in weaving in my mana. The act of giving. I love gifting lei.
I love making lei, of connecting to the aina, the land, the feeling of groundedness and gratitude for the abundance of beauty from the land. The most beautiful fragrant flowers that are in bloom in this season of spring. I love the gifts of the earth and garden. I love sharing my love and connecting to the land and gifting lei.
I love making lei, the ceremony of collecting the plants, the meditation in creating. I love doing it in circle with my hanai sisters and my sister friends. I love that it reminds me of similar teachings from both my elders and my Kumu Hula teachers, about the importance of creating, connecting to nature and above all else to do all things in ceremony and in reverence. I love the gifts of Indigenous knowledge and the way our cultures weave into each other like making lei and braiding sweet grass. I love make lei and being on this land and in these waters.
