El Domingo pasado tuve la oportunidad de unirme a mis colegas profesores de Yoga a una taller sobre la Biomecánica Cervical y la Dinámica Craneo-espinal sobretodo en posturas invertidas.

Fue un taller bastante educativo donde aprendimos mucho sobre los movimientos y estructuras del cuello que permiten proteger la medula espinal, como también aprendimos sobre la interacción mecánica entre el craneo y la columna para mantener el equilibrio y proteger las estructuras neurológicas y vasculares.

Como profesora de Yoga es fundamental tener este conocimiento hacia con los estudiantes ya que determinan la diferencia entre una práctica segura y una lesión neurológica o estructural grave. Al invertir el cuerpo, se invierten las cargas físicas y las presiones de los fluidos, desafiando por completo el diseño natural del cuello. En un paro de cabeza por ejemplo, Sirsasana, si la técnica es incorrecta, la columna cervical baja recibe un vector de fuerza directo para el que no tiene la masa ni el grosor óseo necesario lo que puede llevar a graves complicaciones. Por eso es importante practicar con conciencia, con paciencia y sobretodo con alguien que te pueda guiar paso a paso para evitar lesiones.

En algunas fotos pueden notar diferentes procesos de como hacer un parado de cabeza seguro. Gracias a ASOYOGA por organizar este evento para los profes y a Silvia Abarca por compartir su conocimiento como Fisioterapeuta.

Stha Padmasana (also known as the Standing Lotus Pose or Knee Balancing Pose) requires a combination of mental and physical attributes, specifically exceptional hip external rotation, core strength, total-body balance, and targeted joint flexibility.

Here depicted in class is the modified advanced version with one leg down pressing on the floor for more stability. It still requires an intense mental concentration to keep the body perfectly still demanding an absolute mental focus and presence, which helps calm an overactive mind.

Stha Padmasana (también conocida como la postura del loto de pie o la postura de equilibrio sobre las rodillas) requiere una combinación de aptitudes mentales y físicas, específicamente una rotación excepcional externa de cadera, fuerza abdominal, equilibrio corporal total y flexibilidad articular específica.

Aquí se muestra en clase la versión avanzada modificada, con una pierna apoyada en el suelo para mayor estabilidad. Aun así, requiere una intensa concentración mental para mantener el cuerpo completamente inmóvil exigiendo una concentración y presencia mental absoluta, lo que ayuda a calmar una mente hiperactiva.

Shoulder Stand or Sarvangasana in Sanskrit, is often called the "queen" or "mother" of all asanas because of its wide-ranging benefits for the entire body. It is an inversion where the body is supported by the shoulders and upper arms, allowing gravity to assist circulation toward the heart and brain. It also stimulates the thyroid and parathyroid glands, which helps regulate metabolism and it activates the parasympathetic nervous system, reducing stress and helping with insomnia.

El reto mental en el Bikram Yoga o la secuencia 26&2 se refiere a la capacidad de mantener la calma, el enfoque y la determinación durante una sesión caliente de 90 minutos. No se trata solo de flexibilidad física, sino de una meditación activa donde la mente es el principal obstáculo a vencer. Es el regular el autocontrol ante la incomodidad, ese mismo autocontrol que llevamos hacia nuestra vida fuera del mat.
