Are you aiming for WEIGHT loss or FAT loss? 🤔
Because there's a big difference!
You can lose weight (according to the scale) by being dehydrated, taking a 💩, or sweating. But none of those things mean that you've lost any fat…
When we say we're trying to “lose weight”, we often mean that we're aiming for fat loss - but our mindset and motivation can then easily go down a deep dark rabbit hole, because we start reverting to the number on the scale for gratification on our progress ☝🏼This is where we often go wrong and where a lot of discouragement stems from because unfortunately the number on the scale can fluctuate daily because of multiple factors. Fluctuations on the scale come from:
📈 menstruation
📈 stress
📈 sodium
📈 indigestion
Here’s why you need to shift your focus to FAT LOSS
Fat takes up 15% more space than muscle. So as you are working out, eating healthy and making progress, your body fat mass will decrease and you will start to look leaner. As you build muscle you will start to see more definition in your legs/arms/back/stomach.
There are many benefits to having muscle, aside from just looking good! To name a few…
💪🏼 Muscle burns more calories at rest, which means your metabolism is STRONGER and you the leaner you look as a result
💪🏼 Muscle improves bone density
💪🏼 Having muscle reduces risk of injury
I’m a firm believer that the best way to track your progress is by taking body measurements, this helps you stay in the “Fat Loss Mindset” because as you decrease in body fat those measurements will always continue to trend DOWNWARDS! (I’ve been a victim of the scale for too many years and I said enough was enough, who’s with me!?) So remember this next time you go to judge your progress and become a victim of the scale for the millionth time👉🏻 FAT LOSS it the goal - not weight loss according to the scale - and grab your measuring tape instead.
