Are you aiming for WEIGHT loss or FAT loss? 🤔

Because there's a big difference!

You can lose weight (according to the scale) by being dehydrated, taking a 💩, or sweating. But none of those things mean that you've lost any fat…

When we say we're trying to “lose weight”, we often mean that we're aiming for fat loss - but our mindset and motivation can then easily go down a deep dark rabbit hole, because we start reverting to the number on the scale for gratification on our progress ☝🏼This is where we often go wrong and where a lot of discouragement stems from because unfortunately the number on the scale can fluctuate daily because of multiple factors. As we shared before…

Fluctuations on the scale come from:
📈 menstruation
📈 stress
📈 sodium
📈 indigestion

Here’s why you need to shift your focus to FAT LOSS

Fat takes up 15% more space than muscle. So as you are working out, eating healthy and making progress, your body fat mass will decrease and you will start to look leaner. As you build muscle you will start to see more definition in your legs/arms/back/stomach.

There are many benefits to having muscle, aside from just looking good! To name a few…

💪🏼 Muscle burns more calories at rest, which means your metabolism is STRONGER and you the leaner you look as a result
💪🏼 Muscle improves bone density
💪🏼 Having muscle reduces risk of injury

I’m a firm believer that the best way to track your progress is by taking body measurements, this helps you stay in the “Fat Loss Mindset” because as you decrease in body fat those measurements will always continue to trend DOWNWARDS! (I’ve been a victim of the scale for too many years and I said enough was enough, who’s with me!?) So remember this next time you go to judge your progress and become a victim of the scale for the millionth time👉🏻 FAT LOSS it the goal - not weight loss according to the scale - and grab your measuring tape instead.

A realistic & balanced full day of eating as a Fitness Trainer🤍🍠🫐🍪

One of the many reasons I love & teach Flexible Dieting to my clients is because it teaches you MODERATION, not deprivation and allows you to incorporate a variety of foods into your day!

I know what it feels like to feel restricted to the 5 foods in a meal plan, convinced that if you eat anything else you won’t make progress. That’s a miserable way to reach your goals!

Once you learn & understand what macros look are, it makes eating according to your goals a whole lot EASIER! It allows you to feel in charge of your food, and not have food be in charge of you. It helps to eliminate the “yo-yo dieting” lifestyle & restrictive behaviour around food, and helps you maintain your progress long term a lot more effortlessly! 👏🏼🙌🏼

Learning macros can seem overwhelming at first. But it’s worth learning and WILL open up so much more room for freedom in your life. You don’t have to do track macros forever either, it’s a means to an end.

This is a simple “Flexible Dieting Checklist” that I practice every day 📝 to ensure I am eating nutrient dense, balanced & prioritizing good digestion.

1) 3 out of 5 meals must have complex / slow digesting carbohydrates (rice, oats, sweet potato, quinoa, etc.)

2) Ensure your food has a lot of COLOR from variety of fruits and vegetables 🌈

3) 2 serving MAX of artificial sweeteners per day to eliminate irritation of the gut, bloating, indigestion. (For me this looks like is stevia in my oats, and the occasional protein bar)

4) 1 serving max of artificial protein sources per day, that means protein shake OR protein bar - not both. Choose to get nutrients from whole food sources and limit the processed as much as possible! This also helps with digestion.

5) Fibre intake goal of 25g per day (this is easily hit with veggies in 2 meals and a serving of fruit)

I am coming up on my 2nd period since taking Hormone Support Plus and because of that, I am ready to give you ladies a proper update!

Let’s talk UNHEALTHY vs. HEALTHY levels of body fat!

On the left I was “competition lean”, this level of leanness is unhealthy to walk around at all year. MANY of problems can arise including when a women’s body fat gets this low.

To name a few…
*Amenorrhea (loss of period, which I had)
*Night Sweats

Tips to improve your mindset & mental health in todays world 🦋✨🌈

1. Start the first two hours of your day with minimal screen time
2. Write down at least 3 things you are grateful for
3. Write down 3 things non-negotiable commitments that would make you proud of today (ex: getting in a good sweat sesh, 10k steps, XYZ for work… etc.)
4. Spend minimal time on social media
5. Do a social media cleanse, make sure the people/information you digest is uplifting, inspiring & positive.
6. Ignore the news as much as possible and focus on YOU & the things you can control.
7. Go to bed early and get a goods night sleep
8. Go outside for some fresh air for at least 30 minutes
9. Have a meaningful conversation with someone you love
10. Remind yourself that you are strong & you will be ok💗

If your anxiety has been sky high because of the current state of the world😵‍💫, I’m with you. I cried myself to sleep this week because I was so anxious. This is when we need to take a step back, ignore everything beyond our control and focus on ourselves. It’s ok to be selfish sometimes ♥️ Your energy is precious and can be better spent elsewhere.
