ABYC Youth Racing

ABYC Youth Racing The ABYC Junior Race Teams consist of different fleets (Optis, ILCA/Lasers, 420s and 29ers) at Ashbridge's Bay Yacht Club (ABYC) in Toronto, Canada.

The ABYC Youth Race Team at Ashbridge's Bay Yacht Club (ABYC) in Toronto, Canada team consists of athletes aged 8-17 who train each summer from May-October racing in various fleets including Optimist, C420, ILCA (4 and 6), and 29er. For the Optis teams, there are three fleets; a Green Fleet (beginner racing), Championship Fleet (intermediate racing) and a high performance fleet (advanced racing).

The team consist of athletes aged 8-15 who train each summer from April-November. For the ILCA/laser team, there are two fleets: a development team and a high performace team. For the 420s and 29er fleet, there is currently only only fleet but we are hoping with more interest, we can expand to a development fleet and a more experienced fleet. The team is structured in three sessions; Spring, Summer and Fall. During the Spring and Fall sessions the athletes train on weekends, with the high performance team also training two nights during the week. During the summer session the athletes train Monday-Friday. The team trains out of ABYC on Lake Ontario in Toronto. Each season the team attends various regattas and train against other young athletes racing Optimist. The Junior Race Team to date has attended numerous regattas in Ontario, Quebec and the United States. COACHES AND VOLUNTEER STAFF

Life as an Ontario Sailing coach

Coaches can join the female coaching clinic that provides networking, mentorship and leadership skills

On water, the focus is on developing skills at the helm of the sailor’s preferred fleet (ILCA, 420, RS Zest, Opti). Sailors will also be given an opportunity to try foiling with WingFoils.

Ultimately, the goal of this program is to promote girls in sailing by building community and a shared love of sailing. Please note this one-week program is available to female sailors, who have at least CANSail 1, through to experienced racers.
