The Canadian Open!!! What a weekend!! We had sun, rain (not the wimpy kind either), snow, wind .. but we did it! Lots of incredible paddle. So much to celebrate. Congrats to Men's Champs Adam Lis & Josh Cooke (Josh's first Canadian Open Title!) who claim the Joe Stulac Memorial Trophy for the year in an exciting match over Michael Stulac and Andrew Daw! The women's title was a hardfought win by Rita Kladstrup & Stephanie Russell over Wendy Gauthier & Nicole Pilote of Fonthill PTC. Special thanks to sponsors Master Athletics & Spirit of York. Shout outs to all the volunteers (you know who you are) who helped make 2026 a banner year - with special thanks to Paul Stulac, Mike Page, Stefania Pilacinski

This past weekend at the Canadian Open, Joe Stulac was honoured posthumously, with the club's lifetime achievement award. A founding member, builder, player, coach and champion of the game Joe was a true sportsman and gave so much to the club, its members, and in particular, the development of the junior program. An incredible athlete who excelled in too many sports to mention it is worth noting that Joe was an Olympian and played on the 1964 Men's Canadian basketball team. We were thrilled to have Joan, their 3 boys - Paul, Mike and Dan - with us, along with Joe's grandchildren Riley, Molly and Jack - to accept the award. Many family, friends and KPTC OG's were with us to celebrate Joe on Saturday. What a treat! We miss you Joe but your legacy is strong. In her remarks, Joan made note that Joe would be so happy to see the growth in the club, the passion in the membership, the strength of the junior program and encouraged everyone to 'keep playing'. So .. let's do that. For Joe.

The 2025 Canadian Open Championships took place this past weekend - what a great time .. and the paddle was good too.
Many thanks to our fantastic sponsors Master Athletics Spirit of York. 82 paddlers - dozens more spectators - amazing volunteers (and some kick-ass Karaoke performers we've heard). Thanks to all players - especially those that travelled from Fonthill, Rochester and Chicago. See you on The Hill in 2026! Rob Thomas .. heal fast - get back on the courts!!

Today, at the KPTC club championships the Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Paul Stulac recognizing his decades long contributions to paddle - as a competitor, coach, volunteer, and champion of the game at the club and throughout teh greater paddle community. It was a thrill to have his family Joan, Dan and Mike with us along with founding members - Barb Ferguson, Dave and Barb Gallagher - and many past leaders of the sport in Canada. A special video message from longtime partner Scott McFaden and congratulatory words from Martin Sturgess were shared. It was a great day … honouring a great player and friend of the game. More photos to follow. Thanks to all who came out to celebrate Paul.

The Canadian Junior Program was also celebrated with a special plaque named for George Tkachuk - a beloved volunteer and player who drove the junior program through the 70s 80s and into the 90s. Names of former winners of American Platform Tennis Association Junior National titles were unveiled and many of the present including the most recent Girls U15 winners and Runners up at Junior nationals - and all KPTC 🇨🇦 final!!

It was a proud Canadian paddle day.
