Two Player of the Game wearable trophies on one amazing person??!? Yer not seeing double, is just that good.
A really close and really fun one against the @ Unyons Saturday night, as they won 2-1. Huge thank you to Steph our HumunGOOSE Big Player of the Game, for the hustle, the positivity and the amazing backcheck-steal-carry-assist!

History repeats itself! After the break and a rust-skating-off shalacking, we rise from the ashes in game two! Great passing and communication all night led to a 4-0 victory.
Huuuge thank you to our co-HUMUNGOOSE BIG PLAYERS OF THE GAME & .pong (SHUTOUT CITY) of Looking To Score for pulling double-duty and saving our night! Was a tonne of fun playing with you two.

How did we miss this absolute gem?!! We had a system! There was D&D dice!

This American import has become a beloved superstar in the GTHLA, and the shining neon pink (or blue, or purple, or whatever colour her hair is that week) in the BCR tapestry. She’s taken her figure skating roller derby skillz and applied it to the old stick puck, playing (and managing) Mingles and taking Sparkles classes to sharpen her edge. This peppy 25 year old holds the Backcheck FRANCHISE RECORD for attendance with a sparkling 89 games played, every one with literally the best attitude.

Although she’s known for doing incredibly thoughtful things, like making the whole team scarlet, navy & cream coloured friendship bracelets, she found her scoring touch this season, starting out with 3 goals in the first three games, and finishing the season fourth on the team in goals! We love you

The last of our Summit profiles is also our last line of defence - our keeper, the one and only .

It’s well known that Pat keeps us in every game regardless of how badly we’re being outplayed, that he could literally be the first star in every night (and often is) and that, as good as he is in the net, he’s probably even better playing out. But what we wanna highlight is what an asset he is to our team, personality wise.

Pat’s always calm, always positive - consistently encouraging the rest of the team. In addition to his infectious demeanour, the guy’s also a deep well of hockey knowledge which we draw from constantly. If we had to pick a permanent captain, Pat would be it with a bullet.

Jana is tough as nails on the ice, which is a reflection of her hard work out on the water.

Today’s profile has the speed, vision and sick flow of a young Erik Karlsson. This guy will pick up the puck in his own zone, wheel it out of there, and is on the attack before you can say “Byward Market.” Plus, if it ends up going back the other way, he’s already in position again on defence.

Of course we’re taking about Mr - electrifying on the ice, and calm, cool and caring everywhere else. Kawai is a heart and soul individual - making gutsy and probably unwise shot blocks during the game, and having genuine, warm conversations full of insight and empathy afterwards. Plus, he’s unofficially (but unanimously) the best dressed on the team.

Legend has it that the G in GTHLA is for Geoff.

I can go on forever about what means to this team.

This guy is the essence of locker room energy. No matter how you’re feeling, you can count on your spirits being lifted by sitting near him in the room (or if you’re really lucky, getting your skates tied). On the ice, his wealth of knowledge helps everyone level up their game. For post game, Geoff is king. This guy can have an 8am shift the next morning, but you can still count on him partying as late as his slacker freelancing teammates.

This guy is the lifeblood of the team, and embodies what it means to be a GTHLA-er

When you talk about positivity and commitment, this guy’s got both in spades. Our resident lumberjack drives straight in all of the way from Paris, Ontario for games and we’re so lucky he does.

Dougie’s an imposing figure out there, but is all jokes and smiles in reality. The dependable blueliner is a Jack-of-all-trades on and off the ice; there’s nothing Hüsker can’t dü. He’s got a full-house of the coolest vintage stuff you can imagine, and the sweetest dog in the world. This bearded beauty is the King of our hearts.
