Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame

Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame Welcome to the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame where we honour the legends of horse racing Recognition of their achievements was overdue.

In the winter of 1973 a group of racetrackers came to the conclusion that the industry had been negligent in its failure to properly honour its pioneers and horses, as well as the contemporary heroes of Canadian racing. These men - writers, broadcasters, publicists and officials from both the Thoroughbred and Standardbred industry - proclaimed that it was time to pay homage to the people who had b

uilt and established the roots of horse racing in Canada. It didn't happen overnight. Three years later, in 1976, Canada's Horse Racing Hall of Fame was founded when 44 individuals * builders, jockeys, trainers, driver/trainers, Standardbreds and Thoroughbreds - were enshrined. For 20 years this was a Hall of Fame without a "home". On August 22, 1997, the dream of those racetrackers of the early 1970's finally became a reality when the Ontario Jockey Club provided a permanent site without cost at Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto. New inductees are added annually to build upon an ever-growing honour roll of Builders, Drivers/Trainers, Jockeys, Standardbreds, Thoroughbreds and Trainers. The annual induction ceremony is a gala event with leading guest speakers, dinner and evening of events.

Wishing a happy retirement to CHRHF Driver Inductee Paul MacDonell. What better way to end his career than in the winner's circle for the 5,786th time, following a victory with Ungawa, a horse he also trained.
Congratulations Paul!

The CHRHF Meritorious Award is presented to individuals with accomplishments that fall outside the organizations established criteria for induction. The candidate must have demonstrated an extraordinary and sustained impact on the industry, with a legacy of transformative contributions that have measurably advanced Canadian horse racing and left an enduring mark on the sport. 2026 marks only the second time this award has been presented.
The late Ralph Pearson was honoured as a founder of Quarter Horse Racing in Ontario and was integral in moving casual races at Greco Farm to Picov Downs in Ajax, ON.

Pearson gave tirelessly of his time to many organizations in efforts to improve Quarter Horse Racing in Ontario. He was among the executives responsible for starting the Quarter Horse stakes and futurity programs and had two tenures as president of the Quarter Racing Owners of Ontario, in the 1970s and 1980s. At the time of his passing in 2025, at the age of 92, Mr. Pearson was still on the QROOI Board.

Representing Mr. Pearson to accept the Meritorious Award were his daughters Lori Pearson, Diane Power, Lynn Kingsley and Darleen Pearson.
