MATCH REPORT vs Toronto Irish 📝
Due to unfavourable conditions we were unable to record any footage of last night’s 3-1 win over Toronto Irish, but that won’t stop us writing a match report.
It was clear to see from kick off that the Shamrocks had the bit between their teeth as they won every challenge, second ball and 5050 as they were hungry for their 3rd win on the trot.
15 minutes into the game, Fordey was dragged to the ground from a set piece and the referee pointed to the spot much to the anger of the away team. Dan McLeod stepped up to put away his 50th goal in Shamrocks colours as he continued his 100% record from the spot.
Chances were few and far between in the remainder of the half with both teams only being afforded half chances. Irish nearly equalised close to the break as the ball fell to them in the box from a corner but Shane was able to keep it out from close range. Shane was again at full stretch after an Irish free kick crept through the wall and was destined for the bottom corner before he got his glove to it
and ensured the Shamrocks would go into the break ahead.
HT 1-0
After sitting back for the end of the first half, the Shamrocks were eager to go out and double their lead and they did exactly that when Fordey met a corner from Adi and headed it home for his 3rd goal of the season.
It looked like it was going to be plain sailing for the remainder of the half but the Shamrocks pressed the self destruct button and allowed Irish back into the game after Mallerman conceded a soft penalty for the Irish to score and halve the deficit.
The next 5 minutes were frantic as the Irish piled on the pressure and only for numerous saves from Shane including a ridiculous double save it could have gotten worse for the Shamrocks.
After a shuffle in formation, the Shamrocks were again able to get a foot hold in the game as they eased the pressure by forcing an own goal to make it 3-1 with 15 to play.
The Shamrocks put their dodgy spell behind them and stood firm to see out all 3 points and come out top in the derby to overtake Irish in the table.
