Yesterday, my daughter and I drove 3+ hours to Huntsville to skate the ice trail at Arrowhead Provincial Park. The skating was incredible — but so was our road trip playlist, our snacks, face masks and all the little moments in between.
Driving up, I reflected on how my I love the journey towards an experience. It’s not actually about a singular outcome, but a series of experiences and adventures borne out of curiosity. It’s also what I love about strength training. After 20+ years of strength training, I’m still infatuated by the journey and what it teaches me along the way.
This journey doesn’t have a specific outcome. It’s often repetitive and slow, but as I continue along this long road, I discover little surprises along the way. Injuries can sometimes make for a bumpy road, but each one is an opportunity to learn and grow. The learning helps me to move forward stronger and better equipped to navigate the inevitable challenges that are yet to come.
Through this current stretch of road I’m on, my body is larger than I’m used to (thank you perimenopause) but stronger than ever. After years of watching my body change from various life experiences, I am able to remind myself to focus on being injury and pain free. There is nothing *wrong* with my body. She is going through another period of change but I feel good and I feel strong. So, I journey on.
