Relationship Zen Relationship Zen offers coaching, events and inspiration for people wanting to experience more happy

Inspired by their lived experiences and by authors such as Ekhart Tolle, Don Miguel Ruiz, and Robin Sharma, David and Lindsey started RelationshipZen.ca as a personal blog in 2012 to reflect on their own relationship. A number of friends and colleagues began sharing the blog with their networks and in 2013 Relationship Zen had become something of a recognizable brand in certain circles beyond Davi

d and Lindsey. However, due to other commitments and a certain dose of "imposter syndrome", David and Lindsey turned their attention away from publishing shortly after. That said, they never stopped living Relationship Zen (and writing draft articles!). Since Relationship Zen is a core part of David and Lindsey's relationship, it has grown with them and they are again ready to share inspiration for millennials (and others) wanting to experience more happy, mindful, and fulfilling relationships. They strongly believe that relationships are core to creating healthier families and communities and they invite you to join the movement. We’ve got a fun, simple, and meaningful challenge for relationship nerds, like you, who aren’t afraid to deepen their sense of connection and understanding. 🌱

It’s inspired by a beautiful trend going around - taking your younger self out for coffee (hence our 10+ old picture we decided to share today 😉). ☕️

As soon as we heard about it, we worked through it together: What would we tell our younger selves about life (e.g., health, career, relationships, finances, etc.)? 💘

It turned into more than just a fun personal reflection - it became a way to see one another through fresh lenses. In the Gottman’s words, it helped to build love maps, admiration, and appreciation... key ingredients to a thriving relationship. 💭

We challenge you and your partner to try this exercise (and don’t worry about putting too much pressure on yourselves, we did this in the car on our way to an event)!

Be present, explore, be curious, and see what insights emerge. ✨

Grief and loss is never easy, and after our recent loss, we’ve been reflecting a lot on how to support each other through it. If you or your partner are going through something similar, we see you. 💔

It can be hard to know how to show up - you’re afraid of saying the wrong thing, not knowing how to support, or feeling vulnerable. It’s tough, uncomfortable, and complex, but showing up for each other is crucial.

Start with you. Make sure you have the emotional space to support your partner, and on the grieving side, prioritize your own self-care too.

Next, courageously communicate. Be empathetic, ask your partner what they need, and share your own needs too.

Some might want your presence, comfort, and check-ins to feel less alone. Others may need space to process things in their own way.

Finally, consciously co-create a way to move forward together that feels okay for both of you.

Grief can feel isolating, but when you each take care of yourself, communicate openly, and co-create your support, you build a foundation to face it and work through it together. 💕

Create a Valentine’s Day tradition that you ACTUALLY look forward to every year! 💕

This year, instead of following the traditional Valentine’s script, we’re all about creating our own meaningful tradition. For us, that means getting fried chicken from a new place every year (because why not?) and spending time connecting over the simple things that reflect our love. 🍗

How are you celebrating Valentine’s Day? Here’s how you can create your own tradition that you both love👇:

1️⃣ Get Clear on Expectations – Talk about what the day means for each of you. What makes you feel loved? What does the day look like for you?
2️⃣ Ask About the Bigger Picture – What significance does Valentine’s Day hold for your partner? Understanding each other’s “why” can lead to more meaningful conversations.
3️⃣ Plan Together – Make the day memorable by planning it as a team. It deepens your connection.
4️⃣ Make it Fun and Personal – Whatever tradition you create, make sure it’s unique to you as a couple. (Fried chicken, anyone?🍗😂)

If you want to dive deeper into improving communication and strengthening your connection, check out our 5-Day Communications Challenge and let’s build that foundation together. 💬💕

🚨We’re back! 🚨

Hey, relationship nerds!

Whether you’re new here or a familiar face, drop a 👋 to let us know you’re there!

Even though we’ve been quiet, we’ve been behind the scenes keeping our own relationship strong and working with couples who reached out to fine tune their relationship skills. We’re excited to be back in this way. 💪

For those of you who are new — we’re David and Lindsey, relationship educators and a real couple. We initially created RelationshipZen.ca in 2011 to document and meaningfully reflect on our relationship lessons and goals... Because we didn’t want to end up in a complacent or toxic relationship. Nope. We wanted a simple, happy and seriously fulfilling one.

Then, our blog transformed into an educational service, filling a gap in a world where no one was formally taught the skills to create healthy relationships.

Our mission is to help you develop the skills to co-create happy, simple, and thriving relationships - to not just fall in love, but to GROW in love!

Stick around for relationship tools, tips, and inspiration that we’ve tested and curated.

David & Lindsey 💕

"Having good communication is essential for a thriving relationship." You've heard that before right?

After the honeymoon phase in a relationship (e.g. 3 months to 3 years), sometimes couples start to feel less connected, affectionate, and positive toward each other.

Yet, they can turn things around and lift things up with even one relationship skill: gratitude.

Express gratitude and appreciation more often in your relationship to build and maintain a strong bond and positive feelings toward each other.

Couples who do this are more likely to have healthier and happier relationships ❤️

And it's simple to begin (we’re talking seconds!)… turn to your partner (like right now) and start by saying "thank you" for something they did... 🙏

Think about how you feel at work or generally when you're seen and appreciated? That's the gift that couples can give to each other every day 💪

Want to practice more of these communication skills? Sign up for our free 5 Day Challenge to Level Up Communication In Your Relationship: https://www.relationshipzen.ca/events/5-day-challenge-level-up-communication-in-your-relationship

Tag your partner so you can try it out together, today. 🤗

Let's talk about authentic and intentional wedding planning.

We had the immense pleasure of attending three weddings last week that were beautifully tailored and unique expressions of each couple's intentions.

From the ceremony to the reception, to the vibe, to the food and to the guest experience, each wedding represented the couples so well.

And that doesn't happen without relationship skills like courageous communication, self-awareness, and collaboration between partners.

🎉 Congratulations to the three couples who tied the knot and thanks for having us! We've got your back. 🙏

And dear reader/relationship nerd, we've got your back too:

➡️ We wrote a 4 step checklist for planning an authentic wedding (using our wedding as an example). Check out our blog in the link in our bio and download the guide.

Much love to all!🙏🏼
