COTTAGE & LAKE SAFETY: WATER SAFETY IN NATURAL ENVIRONMENTS
Cottage season is here! Natural water environments like lakes and rivers present unique safety challenges. Here's what families need to know:
✓ Natural water is unpredictable—currents, depth changes, and temperature vary
✓ Always wear a properly fitted life jacket, especially for weaker swimmers
✓ Check water temperature before entering—cold water shock can be dangerous
✓ Never dive into unfamiliar water—depth and bottom hazards are unknown
✓ Establish clear boundaries with children about where they can swim
✓ Keep rescue equipment (life rings, rope) accessible at the dock
✓ Be aware of aquatic hazards: rocks, logs, weeds, and sudden drop-offs
✓ Avoid swimming at dusk or dawn when visibility is poor
✓ Never leave children unattended near water, even for a moment
✓ Know CPR and have a first aid kit readily available
At Aqua Elite, we teach water survival skills that prepare children for any water environment—building confidence and judgment that lasts a lifetime.
