Tango by Leeliana Tango by Leeliana is a tango school. Our new session starts at the beginning of every month and runs for 8 weeks (2 months). Thursdays 7pm - 10pm.

Hello Dear Students! On behalf of the Toronto tango team & the instructors, Matt, Alain, and myself - Leelee, i'd like to welcome you into our tango school. The school is a lovely place! We cultivate an atmosphere of dialogue, fun, and real learning. Don’t be afraid to ask for feedback or to give feedback. You are here to learn & to enjoy your interactions with people. You can learn tango steps an

ywhere but we will teach you how to dance well. It is empowering to do something well. We teach you tango like we would teach you a foreign language, so you can “speak” it and express all your thought and feelings. The school's study program is unique in many ways. We teach in Toronto as well as in Buenos Aires; on an amateur & professional level. You will see from our students that our professionalism & knowledge give excellent results. All our classes are progressive & they teach you the fundamentals of tango. That means you learn what you absolutely have to know. We respect your time and fill it only with essential exercises & steps to practice. The study program has been tried and tested over the past 15 years & only the practices that give excellent and authentic results have been kept. We make our lessons fun and enjoyable but... essentially we are tough. We know what it takes to make you a fantastic dancer and we don’t neglect anything. We focus on quality tango, so beneath all the giggling and smiles, you will always find solid knowledge of technique & artistic skill. Tango will take years to learn, but the process is amazing and wonderful. We keep hearing how much people’s lives improve because of what they learn with us. The coming four weeks we'll focusing specifically on the tango embrace: what works and what doesn't, what makes it enjoyable and how not to lose that, and just in general how the tango embrace can really, really work. Tomorrow is the last of our four weeks focused on musicality. We'll be adding waltzes to the mix (like this one), and learning some musically interesting steps.
This song is one of the slower waltzes, and Juan d'Arienzo has a wonderfully rhythmic interpretation of it. Listen to the song, and ask yourself "how would I like to dance to this?" Then come make it happen tomorrow!

Most waltzes have a fairly simple and constant rhythm. This one http://bit.ly/1tNcjvL, which we danced to in the practica today, doesn't: there are interesting changes in which beat is emphasized (can you spot them?) and there is a big difference between high energy (think breathing in) and low energy (breathing out). That playfulness can translate into how you're dancing. That's what we call musicality, which is what we're working on this month.
