The tennis courts have been exceptionally busy, as you know, since re-opening on 22nd May. To ensure the smooth running of operations and fair distribution of court time, it is essential that all members abide by club rules, some of which are reviewed below.

1. City of Toronto Tennis Club Permit allows us to operate from 8am until 11pm daily. Playing tennis out of hours is not authorized and additionally creates noise disturbance for our neighbours.

NOTE: Public Play Hours are 5pm until 8pm on Saturday’s, Sunday’s and Public Holidays (club members can play during this time under public play rules).

2. Members are limited to booking 2 hours of court time daily

3. It is essential that members cancel booked courts as soon as possible if courts are not needed.

4. Turn off court lights if you are last to leave at night. Timer will switch lights off at 11pm.

5. Always Lock the court gates if you are last to leave. Ensure the number dials are spun so the entry code is not left in view.

6. Outdoor gatherings should not exceed 5 people. (Guidelines for Community tennis clubs)

7. Follow current COVID prevention rules found on on posters and City of Toronto Website.

Please abide by the club rules. Doing so is respectful to all club members and will ensure optimal use of court time for all members. The Executive will be monitoring activities and court bookings to ensure compliance.

SBTC Season 2021 starts 1st April!!

On-Line Membership Registrations will tentatively open on March 22nd. Look for it.

The City of Toronto will soon update their COVID19 restrictions and these may affect programs and group sizes for the 2021 season. We will notify members as development occur.

Until then registration for Summer Camp, adult and junior programs is happening. Once the form is up and online we suggest that members register early as decisions by the City may impact numbers and priority will be given to those who registered first.

Hello everybody,
We are sure most of you are eager to get back onto the courts. We have obtained the guidelines issued by the City of Toronto governing the opening of the courts. We do not yet have our permit. Until the permit has been issued and processed the courts remain closed. Your executive together with a few club members have prepared the courts. The nets and the windscreens are up. The clubhouse will remain closed for the time being. Please note that if you decide to play YOU ARE PLAYING AT YOUR OWN RISK.
Play will not be the same as usual for the next little while. Only singles play is allowed, no doubles. No drop-in tennis is allowed. Social distancing rules have to be strictly adhered to, no guests or spectators are allowed. The club is obligated to keep detailed records of who has played on each day and at what time and with whom. This is necessary in case a player gets infected with the virus and Public Health wants to trace all players that played at the same time. Here is the exact wording:
It is the responsibility of the Community Tennis Club to provide and ensure all the guidelines and requirements for maintaining a safe facility are provided and adhered to.
Each Community Tennis Club must maintain a record system to track all players using the facility each day and the time they used it. This is to assist in contact tracing should anyone develop COVID-19.
This record needs to include:
o Full name of the person who visited the Community Tennis Club and contact information (phone number and email).
o Date and time person visited the Community Tennis Club (including the time they entered and left the facility).
The community tennis club must keep these records and make them available to TPH upon request.
Records must be able to be submitted to TPH electronically, if requested (TPH stands for Toronto Public Health)
In order to comply with this requirement we have instituted an electronic booking program on our website where players can book a court on an hourly basis for courts 1 to 4. To book a court go to www.sbtennis.org and click on “Court Booking”. You'll find the instructions there. Only players that have registered with the club for 2020 will be accepted by the booking system. So please register as soon as possible if you want to play.

We are all aware that these are unprecedented times and we have to adjust to it as best we can. Although some rules may appear cumbersome, they have been established to protect all of us and our future economy. Let's get familiar with them and let's abide by them. Please also note that the rules will be enforced. Spot checks will be made. The City is adamant in enforcing the rules strictly. To avoid any dire consequences for our club, if you become aware of anybody not adhering to the rules, i.e. just dropping in, lingering around without playing on a court, not adhering to the social distancing rules, etc., please let your Executive know. Please know that anybody found not adhering to the rules will lose their playing privileges immediately.
Please be a good, responsible club member, even in these trying times. Let's stand together and make the best of it. This will pass too and hopefully we'll soon be back to playing as we used to do.
There are still issues to be worked out with the City. When these have been resolved and the permit is issued, you'll hear from me again.

Dear Members,

If you have visited our courts recently, you will have noticed that the windscreens are up. A big thank you to those who volunteered last weekend to help with that task.

You will also have noticed some new signage reminding us to maintain social distancing, as well as notifying us of some new rules of play.

However, we unfortunately still remain closed.

Your executive has been working hard to take appropriate steps to open. We realize that to many of you this is not moving along fast enough. We do not take this lightly, we feel your urgency, and we too are fans of tennis who miss the sport dearly.

The health and safety of our membership who use the courts is paramount, and we will not open until we feel that we have reasonably done everything we can to provide a safe environment. We are putting together a return-to-tennis plan for our club that meets the requirements laid out by the City of Toronto.

We will send out email updates as soon as we can. Please also visit our website for new information.

We would like to leave you with some of the new rules that will be implemented, as mandated by the City of Toronto, when we return to play:

• No doubles permitted. Single play only.
• Give other players space while waiting for your turn to play.
• Bring your own tennis balls, uniquely identify them, and only touch your tennis balls
• Avoid touching common areas (the net, fences, poles, gates, etc…)
• Regularly clean or sanitize hands, and avoid touching your face
• Do not gather before or after you play tennis, and always keep 2 meter away from others
• There will be no washroom or clubhouse access

We will also require some sort of sign-in when you play, with name and contact information so that we can provide to Toronto Public Health upon request.
