When you guide hunters into wild country, you’re responsible for more than yourself. You’re responsible for every client standing behind you when things go sideways.

That’s why the old 45-70 still rides in so many guide scabbards. Heavy lead. Short range. Absolute authority.

In thick alder, dark timber and wounded game situations, there’s no room for hesitation. Preparation matters. Training matters. Protection matters.

Helpful Hint:

“If a client offers you a tip in cash or quality optics…. TAKE THE OPTICS!”

In 2009, I guided an American hunter to a BC Elk and Mule Deer. After the hunt he asked “for your tip, did you want cash of my Swarovski Binoculars?” Now, most of the decisions I made when I was younger….were wrong, but not this one. I took the used pair of Swaros and after 16yrs of use and abuse, they are still as clear as ever. Sadly, last month I tore one of the rubber eye pieces (minor details). In short…. OPTICS ARE KEY!
