MLSE Foundation’s mission is to improve the lives of youth by developing facilities, supporting sustainable programs and empowering youth through sports and recreation. Our new and boldest initiative, MLSE LaunchPad, is a purpose-built ‘hub’ where youth will use sport to recognize and reach their potential through integrated sports and life skills programming. Our goal is to achieve sustainable, w
ide-ranging social outcomes for youth facing barriers. Achieving sustainable, wide-ranging social outcomes for youth takes collaboration, youth engagement and a commitment to measurement and evaluation. Our solution is MLSE LaunchPad, a place where youth will use sports to recognize and reach their potential. We know that the use of sport is a powerful engagement tool, and that coupling sports with life skills programming enhances the effectiveness of both. MLSE LaunchPad will employ the philosophy of ‘Sport For Development’—a specific methodology backed up by extensive research that uses sports and recreational activity intentionally to achieve positive social outcomes. MLSE LaunchPad will be a 42,000 square foot incubator for collaboration in Toronto’s Moss Park neighbourhood. It will host expert partners who have a longstanding history of delivering best in class programming that support our 4 pillars: Health Body, Healthy Mind, Ready For School and Ready For Work. Located in Toronto’s ubran centre of Moss Park, MLSE LaunchPad is an ambitious, innovative project—the first of its kind in North America. It will serve as a ‘living lab’ to explore and measure how sport can help improve the lives of youth in at risk neighbourhoods. We will be partnering with leading academic institutions to measure and evaluate the programming.
