Reminder that this site has all active, sanctioned dojos and event listings

The International Federation is recent. Before 2025, international practitioners were all under the All Japan Federation (the "rest of the world" was categorized as its own prefecture, alongside Japan prefectures.) International still operates under All Japan but allows for better connectivity between non-Japanese clubs.

Welcome to the official website of the International Jukendo Federation, the organization committed to the practice, promotion, and preservation of Jukendo and Tankendo. These distinct yet complementary Japanese martial arts offer a unique fusion of traditional values and modern combat techniques, f...

We are shifting our training focus from Jukendo to Tankendo for the next couple of months.

Tankendo takes the discipline of bayonet training and compresses it into close-quarters, short-blade combat. The movements are tighter, the timing faster, and the margin for error almost nonexistent. Where Jukendo trains reach, drive, and forward pressure, Tankendo sharpens precision, economy, and control: every step and thrust happens up close and on purpose.

Same roots. Same rigour.
Closer, faster, and more intense.

Friday January 09 2026 Jukendo.
Step by step. Not chasing perfection (quite yet) but building reliability. (clearly there is some hesitation on the thrusts to nodo...)
Forward into the year.

January 02 2026
First keiko of the year in our new practice space.
Reviewed jukendo basics and then split the group into tankendo shiai training (with a visiting sempai) and jukendo motodachi drills.

Jukendo rewards structure, obedience to form, and patience more than brute strength.

Jukendo Dec 19 2025
Most dojos wrapped for the year but we wanted one last practice before our short break so we used an art gallery for some kata work.
The final hour of practice involved jūken vs. katana.
Not a fantasy matchup, but a study in timing, distance, and intent. The bayonet meets the sword through controlled footwork, precise thrusts, and disciplined posture; less about force, more about maai and resolve.

Jukendo Dec 12 2025
Something I have been told, and that I say in our dojo is that Budo is a discipline; it's not fun. Yet people continue to smile and laugh, so budo clearly enhances our lives in a positive way.

Workshopped hidari harai in kata and put it into practice.

Jukendo December 05.
Workshopped Dattotsu (strikes to the left side of the opponent's kote, often by going under the motodachi's weapon) in kata and then in practical kihon and kakarigeiko.

Started the Nov 21 training with full bogu sparring to get everyone warmed up and relaxed before kihon training.
Jukendo is grounded in the idea that correct technique under pressure only emerges when thousands of identical motions have been internalized to the point of instinct.

Why is Jukendō so rare outside Japan?
Because it’s a martial art with very specific roots. Jukendō grew out of Japan’s old bayonet-training system, so it never gained the global visibility of karate or judo. There’s no modern civilian use for a rifle-and-bayonet, instructors are few, equipment is specialized, and the practice is tied closely to Japanese military history.

The result? A small but extremely dedicated community keeping a unique piece of budō alive around the world.

That said, Toronto Jukendo Tankendo observes we are entering our third year as a club!
