HOW IT WORKS
The crowd attending a Monday baseball game who are 14 years old and older are eligible to fill out an entry form. This form will include information that can be used in the future by the baseball club for marketing purposes (such as e-mail addresses). In the sixth inning the crowd hitter for the Tuesday game is announced. Besides being chosen as the CROWD HITTER, the winner (he or sh
e) would be given two complimentary tickets to the Tuesday game, as well as a home team cap, baseball shirt, baseball bat and a home team autographed baseball. At the Tuesday game, after the opposing team’s batting practice is finished and before the infield screens are removed, the CROWD HITTER takes ten swings from the batting practice pitcher. WEBSITE – THE YOU TUBE OF BASEBALL
The event would be captured for a new website called CROWD HITTER, owned and operated by Major League Baseball which would link to mlb.com and other major league team’s websites. One would think that the website would only attract an audience of relatives and friends. However, with major league baseball’s resources, the content would be increased to cover all aspects of teaching baseball; including hitting, pitching, catching and fielding instructions from the professionals. I see this as a worldwide site where all would go to seek professional advice to improve their game. Also the event can be shown between one of the innings on the score board in centre field. THE BUDDY PASS
The buddy pass can be used to expand the participants on the web experience. Crowd Hitter will give the buddy pass to relatives and friends who have purchased tickets to the game to join (him or her) on the field after the swings are completed. The expertise of the TV crew recording the event will make it one to remember.
