MY 2023 GOAL?
CONSISTENCY
(Long Post - Missing workouts? Trouble sticking with it? Feeling like you’re spinning your wheels? Read on!)
If you ask any of my clients, they will tell you that I always preach the importance of consistency. In my opinion, this is the single most important aspect of both training and nutrition. You can have the best program or diet in the world, but if you don’t do it, it won’t work.
The easiest way to stay consistent? Find a way to hold yourself accountable!
The majority of my clients no longer need help with their exercise technique and could most likely figure out how to setup a decent training program on their own (except for Super Sue - she needs constant supervision) - The reason they continue training with me year after year is that I hold them accountable. It’s a lot easier to bail on going to the gym when no one is expecting you to show up. One missed session turns into two, and next thing you know it’s been months of paying for a gym membership you don’t use. Sound familiar?
While I have consistently been working out all these years, I noticed that I was very inconsistent with my goals and training program. I started to find the wheels were spinning with my progress. I found myself bouncing from program to program, focusing on strength only to change my mind three weeks later to focus on hypertrophy. I would try to gain weight and then decide I wanted to get leaner. All of which lead to stagnation.
Late last year I realized all of this and decided I needed to find a way to be accountable. So I got a commercial gym membership (gasp!) - And while I maintain that commercial gyms are not ideal for most people, this was exactly what I needed. A change of scenery to push myself out of my comfort zone. I made friends with the staff, we have all discussed our goals, and they now hold me accountable. They expect to see me on a regular basis pursuing my goals (all upper body every single day) and I expect to hear about them training and pursuing their goals!
Moral of the story? Find a way to hold yourself accountable.
Get started, stay consistent, and you will get there!
