Metro Blades Fencing Club

Metro Blades Fencing Club Toronto's downtown fencing club! You can find our schedules and locations from our website metroblades.ca, or email us at [email protected].

Located in downtown Toronto, Metro Blades is a non-school-affiliated city club that offers training for beginner, intermediate and experienced foil fencers, providing an enjoyable, informal atmosphere that caters to both recreational and competitive foil fencers at all levels of development (for ages 13 & up). We also welcome epee and sabre fencers of course, and some coaches offer individual less

ons in those weapons, but we do not offer formal classes in them. Our main night and beginner classes operate out of the Ballet school on Fridays, but we fence at a different location on Sundays, also in the same Carleton/Jarvis area. Happy fencing! www.metroblades.ca

Great fun in zubies back yard yesterday! There was a bit of Sabre, a bit of foil. Zubie argued every point, whether in his favour or not. In other words, the good old days! Thanks Alex Miklos for reffing!

“En Garde, Prêt, Allez!” the sound of smacking steel and light footfalls fill the air, mingling with the electric beeping, shouting, and cheering of the huge space. A match is underway, two female opponents fighting for the final touch of a 5-point bout.

Metroblades remains closed because of COVID-19. We are following the Ontario Fencing Association return to play protocol and will reopen when it is safe for our members to do so. We may run a small beginner class in September (10 participants) or less if it in safe to do so.

🤺Did you know that fencing is one of the only sports that has been in every Olympics since the beginning of the modern Olympics? 🆒

That's actually quite impressive! This long history means that the schools of thought in fencing are deep-seeded and well thought out 🦉🤔📜. While this is an advantage in terms of the coaching fencers receive, sometimes fencers get so stuck in the Xs and Os of a bout or lesson that we neglect the bigger picture of athletic development -

A good Strength and Conditioning program has a multitude of benefits. Some of the main benefits include:

1. Reduced Risk of Injury -
2. Motor Learning/Combatting Early Childhood Specialization -
3. Use of the full force velocity curve -
4. Improved Neuromuscular Functioning -

I’ll be posting about each of these in turn and blogging about them more extensively. Stay tuned!

MET is closed until further notice. Beginner and intermediate classes: we will complete the remaining lessons when the Covid-19 situation improves. Monday night fencers: we will add some practice nights later. Stay healthy everyone!!!!
