Athlete highlights 🤝

Jerry Bi hitting a nice 10kg comp pr despite expecting more on the day (the cut ended up causing some cramping issues but we adjusted really well despite a very fast comp and landed a 20 kg meet pr)

Joel Schwartz winning the 105kg m1 at regionals and hitting this 5 kg atpr deadlift in addition to a 12.5 kg total pr as well!

Iso(bel) D'Iorio making light work of 170 kg for 2 (chasing that elusive 200kg deadlift sooner than later‼️)

Wesley Harper finishing his comp prep with an atpr deadlift with room! He will be competing at easterns with the hopes to solidify his open nats qt !

Rehan Anthony, CSCS closing out his final block before peaking for his regional comp with a 7.5 kg atpr squat with room!!

Some amazing wins, some learned lessons, lots of fun but I need a nap as per usual 😂

As per usual take immense gratitude that this is my life and that people trust me with handling and coaching (I truly don’t take it for granted)

3 more weeks before the provs handling bender ‼️

Ever struggle with reacting to a bad session

Let me know if this relates

You have a bad lift and now you are second guessing the plan

So many thoughts run through your mind

- oh it was my technique
- oh it was a programming issue
- oh its a fatigue problem

The list goes on

Yes you can just ignore your thoughts in the moment but an even better solution

Write down in the moment what you would send to your coach or just reasonings for why it went bad

Then you are going to leave it for 24-48 hrs and revisit what you wrote

After this period, you can likely provide more objective and less reactionary feedback that you and your coach can communicate next steps or if anything should be tweaked or not

Over time in lifting you will accumulate more bad sessions , knowing how to react and manage these appropriately will play a huge role in your coach-athlete relationship and long term progress

Processed vs outcome goals for powerlifting?

My take on this question and why as you progress in the sport you are likely going to shift more towards process oriented goals rather than outcome

This doesn’t mean you don’t create outcome goals but the emphasis I find changes over the course of your lifting career

Be intentional with lifting to comp standards

Earlier this week I filmed from front and side angles and noticed on backdown rep work I was being lazy and not executing to comp standards with my stack/knees despite me feeling like I was good

The amount of lifters who train with lazy knee positions and lose their stack happens at every level

And I hear the same complaints, man my squat feels different on meet day, I feel like I can’t find my midfoot

It’s because we just aren’t training to comp standards, similar to not pausing your benches or not holding your top singles awaiting the start command

Hold yourself to a high standard and your lifts will translate so much better to the platform
