Acne is rarely random. It’s usually a signal that something internally or externally is disrupting the skin environment.
First, I would stop treating it as only a surface-level problem.
From a biological perspective, acne is driven by:
• excess sebum production
• clogged pores (keratin buildup)
• Cutibacterium acnes imbalance
• inflammation within the follicle
• hormonal + stress signals (androgens/cortisol)
Living in 🇨🇦Canada/USA🇺🇸 adds common triggers like:
• hard water exposure
• seasonal dryness leads to barrier damage
• high stress lifestyle
• processed diet patterns
• inconsistent sleep cycles
What I would actually doâś…
• Simplify skincare i.e. gentle cleanser + moisturizer + sunscreen
• Avoid over-exfoliating or stacking too many actives
• Support skin barrier first (reduce inflammation, not just “dry out acne”)
• Check internal factors (sleep, stress, nutrition, hormones if needed)
• Identify patterns instead of reacting to each breakout
Most long-term clear skin comes when both internal and external triggers are addressed together.
If your acne keeps returning despite trying multiple products, there’s usually a deeper pattern behind it that needs a more structured approach & that’s where I typically step in to help people figure it out.
