I have been thinking a lot lately about the things we return to when life feels confusing, noisy or simply not quite right.
Usually, when we feel off centre, we go looking for answers. We ask other people what they think, make plans, overthink, distract ourselves, try to push through, or tell ourselves that once we finally “figure it out,” everything will feel easier again.
But I am becoming more and more interested in something slightly different.
What helps us find our centre before the answer even arrives?
Sometimes it is our values. Sometimes it is a boundary we know we need to honour. Sometimes it is our body telling us that something is not right long before we are ready to admit it. Sometimes it is our sense of self-worth, or the support of people who know us well enough to remind us who we are when we temporarily lose sight of it ourselves.
None of these things makes life perfect, of course. They do not remove uncertainty and they do not magically solve every problem. But I do think they help us come back to ourselves, and that matters.
This is something I have been exploring more deeply in my workshops, in my conversations with people and, lately, in my writing as well, so you will probably see more of it here.
I would really love to know - when life pulls you away from yourself, what helps you return?
