Personally, I don’t think either one of these supplements are worth the hype. With that said, I do (on occasion) like to buy EAA’s simply because they can be a delicious low-calorie alternative to sugary drinks!
As for the claimed benefits… it’s probably not worth the money especially when you take into account that eating enough protein will be more than enough to support muscle growth and recovery.
That said, If you MUST take an amino acid supplement, you might as well purchase EAA’s.
You’re still getting a similar dosage of BCAA’s, only now you’re also getting all the other 6 essential amino acids. When you factor in that BCAA’s and EAA’s are very similarly priced as well as almost identical in taste, it’s a no brainer!

Taurine - what is it and is it dangerous?
I get this question a lot…mainly out of fear due to people whose parents have cautioned them against it from “reputable” Facebook health articles… 🥲
In reality, Taurine consumption doesn’t punch you a one way ticket to the grave… taurine is an amino acid as well as an extremely common ingredient in pre-workout and energy drinks. It is found naturally within the body with higher concentrations in your brain, heart, and eyes.
It functions mainly to maintain proper hydration and balance your electrolytes. In terms of exercise benefits, it has been shown to reduce muscle damage and soreness, as well as contribute to a higher exercise tolerance.
That being said, research on Taurine’s effects on exercise performance are limited and therefore should not be interpreted as a full representation of Taurine as a performance enhancer.
A big question with Taurine: is it safe? Studies have shown that Taurine is completely safe long-term when taken daily at dosages at or below 3,000 mg (Shao et al., 2008). If this is the case, a 500 mg dose of Taurine in pre-workout or energy drinks falls well below that threshold and will likely be fine so long as moderation is considered.

This post only begins to scratch the surface of this topic, but it’s an important share!
The truth is, too many people are skipping over the essentials and jumping straight to anti-aging creams and treatments before they’ve even considered their diet and lifestyle first.
One of the main culprits of skin and tissue degeneration is inadequate protein intake. When you think about it, it makes complete sense: how is your body supposed to repair itself if there’s nothing to repair it with?
On top of this, we need to learn to be preventative in the way we aim to preserve our muscle mass and train for life. Learning to improve load management and preserve muscle mass and function will allow us to still be travelling, moving around, and enjoying life with our families well into our old age!

Not really! Soreness in most cases will simply mean that you’ve recently tried something new and your body isn’t used to it. If you consistently train the same way, you’ll experience less DOMS.

Do you know your body type?
Knowing your body type (aka somatotype) matters in terms of keeping your fitness goals realistic. Understanding the body type that is closest to your build is key in tailoring your fitness and dieting goals to see the most success.
It’s important to understand that somatotypes exist on a spectrum. It is actually quite rare to ONLY be one of these three somatotypes.
Typically, one dominates over the others. People with a more skinny and small build will be more Ectomorphic, but that’s not to say that they don’t possess Meso or Endomorphic qualities as well.
To find out what your somatotype is, go back and look at pictures from your childhood to get a better understanding of your genetic starting point!

Cholesterol - you always hear about how bad it can be for you. What is it?
First off, there are two different types of cholesterol carriers in the body. They are referred to as HDL and LDL cholesterol.
LDL is known as the “bad” cholesterol. The body contains higher levels of LDL cholesterol and the excess is stored in blood vessels. This is what is referred to as the “plaque” buildup in arteries caused by a poor diet.
HDL is known as the “good” cholesterol. While the amount we contain in our bodies varies greatly from person to person based on genetics, diet, and lifestyle, we can do our best to increase levels via our diet.
HDL carries cholesterol out of the arteries and into the liver to be cleared from the body. It is for this reason that we should be aiming to maintain adequate levels of HDL in our diet!

Muscle building essentials 🙌
At the base of the pyramid will always be energy, water, and Protein! Without these three, your body won’t be able to do anything no matter how hard you’re hitting the gym!
Note that supplements are at the top of the pyramid. They definitely do help to build muscle faster, but they’ve never been essential and never should be considered as such! Consider supplements after everything else is taken care of first!

An important message as we come out of the holiday season!
Remember, our bodies are mostly made of water! Because of this, weight fluctuations (yes, even +/- 5 pounds or more) can be due to changes in your body’s water content.
You’d have to eat a lot more than you’d think to gain that much fat on a day to day basis. You also probably didn’t lose 10 pounds of fat in a single week!

There may be hundreds of different diets, but there’s only one thing that actually removes fat from your body!
You guessed it, it’s a calorie deficit! 😄
We always preach that the best diet is the one that works. Like Keto? That’s completely fine! Intermittent fasting? Fine too! As long as you’re in a deficit at the end of the day, your methods don’t really matter!
