That's a wrap on CAPEX 22!

Years of fervent planning, mostly done under the heightened pressures and uncertainties of the pandemic, have culminated in a truly special four-day international philatelic exhibition. Not only Canada's first international show in more than a quarter-century, CAPEX 22 stands as the world's first International One-Frame Stamp Championship Exhibition.

We're thrilled to have welcomed the world's philatelic community to Canada for some much-needed camaraderie and fellowship. Thank you to everyone who attended the show—to the hundreds of single-frame and literature exhibitors, to the judges and commissioners, to the dealers and auctioneers on the bourse, to the clubs and societies, to our sponsors, and to our many volunteers—we couldn't have done it without you!

During CAPEX 96, Canada’s fourth international philatelic exhibition, CanadaPost issued five stamps on a 10-stamp pane (Scott #1606) celebrating the centennial of the 1896 Yukon gold discovery. Another four-stamp set (SC #1570-73) issued during that year’s show honoured the country’s historic bridges – tying into the event’s transportation theme – with the CAPEX 96 logo in the pane’s selvage.

The CAPEX 22 Grand Prix winners – the show's top honours – were announced at a special palmares dinner last night in Toronto.

The remaining awards will be handed out this morning during a ceremony before the bourse opens at 10 a.m. for the final day of CAPEX 22.

During CAPEX 87, Canada’s third international philatelic exhibition, CanadaPost issued a four-stamp set (Scott #1122-25) featuring historic post offices across the country. Canada Post also issued a set during CAPEX 22 on June 9.

As part of today's seminar schedule – chock full of fun and intriguing events – the NORTH TORONTO STAMP CLUB ( NTSC ) hosted a pair of talks by U.S. philatelists.

Show-goers were treated to lively presentations from Michael Cortese and Charles Epting, both of Conversations with Philatelists, and then Graham Beck, of Exploring Stamps.

There are seminars, club meetings and other social events scheduled throughout the day, and we hope to see you all down at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre!

For CAPEX 78, Canada’s second international philatelic exhibition, Canada’s Post Office Department (now CanadaPost) issued four stamp-on-stamp commemoratives (Scott #753-56), three of which were featured on the country’s first souvenir sheet (SC ).

The Canada Post booth is busy again today with collectors trying to get their hands on the new issue featuring vintage travel posters!

Moving into the exhibition hall and bourse, there's a flurry of activity around the exhibit frames and dealers.

Through CAPEX 22 – until June 12 – show-goers can also enjoy a full slate of seminars, club meetings and other social events in a return to the pre-pandemic camaraderie we've all missed during the pandemic.

During CAPEX 51, Canada’s first international philatelic exhibition (and the first one held in the British Empire outside of England), Canada’s Post Office Department, as it was then known, issued a four-stamp set (Scott #311-14) commemorating iconic modes of transportation from the previous century. Known as CanadaPost since 1981, the postal service also issued a set during CAPEX 22 today.
