After the SUP photo shoot at Encuentro in the morning, we met up with kitesurfers, Bianca and Taylor, over at La Boca, Dominican Republic for some more lifestyle and action shots. Again Genesis Reyes Photography focused on high quality product photos while also capturing the water women in action along with some cross-promotion for Bianca's business - Bianca Bikinis. Back in 2015 when I was just starting Truli Wetsuits, I did not focus on diversity at all. As a straight-sized woman, I didn't have an idea that sizing was an issue in the industry - my focus was high quality functional wetsuits that also looked good and so when the pattern maker and manufacturer provided the xs, s, m, l, xl sizes, I didn't question it. I also didn't notice that the women who were already existing in the water sport world, all looked the same. It wasn't until much later that I started to understand first, just how many people were being left behind because there were no size options for them and second, the impact of seeing people who look like you participating in activities that you want to do can have. These seem like really obvious insights now and just shows how many blinders we have to others' experience of the world. I also think how important it is to have the voices at the top need to reflect those who have been left out in order for change to really make headway. And the ones who are already existing in the space to be allies and partners along the way.
