🇮🇹 Italian Heritage Month Family Spotlight: The Tarsitano Family 🇮🇹
The Tarsitano family traces its roots to Pedace Perito, in the Province of Cosenza, Calabria, Italy. In 1955, Rocco Tarsitano left his family behind and made the journey to Canada in search of a better life and greater opportunities. Three years later, in 1958, his wife Filomena and their four children followed, travelling aboard the MS Augustus to Halifax arriving at Pier 21 before continuing by train to Port Arthur, Ontario.
Today, that legacy continues with Le Stelle Alpine Italian Dancers through Anna Morrone and her daughter Amanda Trevisanutto. Anna dedicated more than 20 years as President of Le Stelle Alpine Italian Dancers, and Amanda danced from age six through adulthood and now proudly serves on the Board of Directors.
For their family, Le Stelle Alpine is about much more than dance. It is a way to honour the sacrifices of those who came before them, celebrate their Canadian-Italian identity, and ensure those traditions continue for future.
“Being Canadian-Italian is something I am very proud of. Le Stelle Alpine allows me to celebrate my heritage, honour my family’s journey, and share those traditions with others. We are more than a dance group—we are a family.” — Amanda Trevisanutto
As we celebrate Italian Heritage Month, we remember the courage of our ancestors and the legacy they built for us. Grazie to the generations who came before us and to those who continue to keep our culture alive today.
