Manitoba Open 2026 in the books.Stepping onto the BJJ mats in competition can be one of if not the most stressful , anxiety provoking things ive ever done. This years team of kids and adults(6yrs-40+) took up this challenge and we couldn't be more proud. Several were bumped up weight categories , age and skill. All showed heart , bravery and humility. In BJJ you win or you learn as I tell the kids all the time , this journey is a marathon not a race and how you conduct yourself as a person and athlete is the true test of a martial artist and athlete. I am so proud to be apart of all these peoples journey, their character, kindness and heart rose to the top this weekend. Thank you the all the parents who supported their kids on this trip as well as coaches Quinn Quinn Alex Wawia Andrew Puksa and Leading Edge Gym for all your help we couldn't have done this without a team.

A huge congratulations to Koen Hurlbert on an incredible achievement at the 2026 Canadian Wrestling Championships in Montreal!

Fresh off an OFSAA Gold Medal, Koen has now added U17 National Champion to his list of accomplishments and, even bigger, has earned his place as a Team Canada World Team member. 🇨🇦

Koen competed as an independent wrestler with Coach Corey Stefanizzi in his corner, and what a year it has been. This milestone is a reflection of countless hours of hard work, discipline, sacrifice, and belief.

Representing Canada on the world stage is something very few athletes ever achieve, and our community could not be prouder.

A special congratulations as well to Coach Corey Stefanizzi on a phenomenal season — producing two OFSAA champions and now helping guide a World Team athlete. Your dedication to developing wrestlers and building champions continues to make a lasting impact.

We also want to recognize and congratulate Mylie Bacarri, a long-time Leading Edge member, on her outstanding performance at Nationals. Mylie earned a bronze medal and secured her place as Canada’s World Team Alternate through her challenge match victory. An amazing accomplishment and well deserved recognition for years of hard work and commitment.

As Koen prepares to represent Canada internationally, we’ll be stepping up to help support his journey through a number of fundraising events in the weeks ahead. Stay tuned for ways to get involved and help one of our own chase this dream.

Thunder Bay continues to produce incredible wrestling talent and these athletes are proving that hard work, good coaching, and determination can take you all the way to the national and world stage.

We have a good supply of t shirts, hats and kids and adult rash guards, just in time for the Manitoba Open.

The final kids competition class wrapped up today, and we're incredibly proud of our competitors and coaches. Now, we're gearing up for the Manitoba Open next weekend, where we're confident our team will excel.

Warrior’s Path and She is Strong:
A Celebration of Growth. As our Warrior’s Path program comes to a close for the Summer, we invite you to join us for a pizza party and games day tomorrow at 4pm, a celebration of the progress and accomplishments made.
She is Strong will be hosting its final class of the session this upcoming Tuesday June 2, from 4-5 pm, a culmination of hard work and dedication.
