This winter, I finally discovered cross-country skiing — and it’s been the missing piece of my winter life.

Since moving to the country four years ago, I’ve been searching for an outdoor activity that truly supports my body and nervous system. I tried downhill skiing, but it never felt right for me — the speed, the crowd, the culture.

This year, cross-country skiing feels like coming home. Gliding through the silence of the forest, I can actually hear it — the whisper of trees, the rhythm of my breath, the teachings that come when I move slowly with the land.This is how I regulate, ground, and remember what it means to be part of nature’s body.

What happiness has been brought into my life is the question I am sitting with today, amidst turbulent and heartbreaking phase of my life.

The quiet and safe happiness has been steadily brought into my life by relationship with nature, by the ability to sing with my drum to the plants, to share such journey with a friend, and to accompany others into this place of Belonging.
