Camp Temagami

Camp Temagami Camp Temagami is a canoe tripping camp for boys and girls aged 8 to 19. We have been Canada’s canoe tripping camp since 1903.

Camp Temagami is a canoe tripping camp for boys and girls aged 10 to 18. For over 75 years, our island has been the origin and destination of canoe trips ranging from overnight to five weeks in length. It has been known under the names Camp Pays d'en Haut and Camp Wigwasati and now as Camp Temagami. Our highly qualified and experienced guides help campers grow as canoe trippers, as part of the com

munity, and as young women and men. Camp Temagami is located on a 20-acre island at the top of the southwest arm of Lake Temagami, Ontario. For over 100 years the region of Temagami has been a canoe-tripping destination based on its remote location 5 hours north of Toronto and its extensive network of lakes and rivers just a short paddle away. Our Camp's focus is on canoe tripping. Our campers have the opportunity to develop skills in decision-making, risk mitigation and initiative while being exposed to values that encourage an appreciation of the environment and others that will serve them well for the rest of their lives.

There is a long tradition of canoe travel in Canada.

It isn’t the modern choice to get from point A to B for our everyday needs.

However, it’s still one of the best ways to learn real tangible life skills. This is especially important for youth. They learn who they are and gain the self-confidence to become who they want to be in life.

This is the tradition Camp Temagami has always been part of.

The Canadian wilderness doesn’t change who a child is. It reveals who they can become.

Not by lecture. By experience. The wilderness doesn’t explain the lesson. It lets children live it.

Confidence built in Canadian wilderness doesn’t disappear in September. Rain becomes resilience. Effort becomes leadership. This is how strength forms — quietly.

Childhood is louder than it has ever been.

The Canadian wilderness doesn’t rush children. It steadies them. When everything accelerates, nature slows them back to themselves.

Canada isn’t something you visit. It’s something you experience.

For a child, that experience shapes resilience, humility, and quiet confidence.

This is what summer should feel like.

Before the current.
Before the wind.
Before the rhythm of paddle strokes and the long quiet days.

There is always a table or floor, maps, and a moment of looking north.

Seven weeks.
Down the George River to Ungava Bay.

Trips like this remind us why canoe travel has always been at the heart of Camp Temagami.
The map is only the beginning — what matters most is the experience that unfolds between the lines.

We’ll share pieces of the journey along the way.

With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Hugh Stewart. He was a camper, guide and owner of Camp Temagami. He has been instrumental to our canoe tripping program and has been a pillar of our camp community. He passed his passion and knowledge of canoe tripping on to generations of campers and staff. He inspired us all as a friend, mentor, and companion on the trail.
