I’ve realized lately that I really haven’t shared enough about who Balanced is actually for.
The easiest answer is that its a lot more people than you might think.
Pilates can be so much more than what people picture when they hear the word. And no, you do not need to be able to fold yourself in half or have any idea what all the springs and straps are for before you come. You don’t need to know the movements. You don’t need to be able to keep up with the person beside you.
You don't need to be a certain age, body type, or fitness level. You just need to be you, exactly as you are right now.
It can be for the person who wants to get stronger and be pushed, and also for someone who hasn’t exercised in years and is nervous to start.
It can be for pregnancy or if you're postpartum, for old injuries and new ones, aches and pains, athletes, beginners, younger bodies, older bodies and pretty much everything in between.
It all belongs here!
Maybe your goal is getting stronger. Maybe it’s better balance or mobility. Maybe it’s getting back to something you haven’t been able to do for a while. And maybe it’s the need for realizing halfway through your day that the thing that used to hurt all the time isn't bothering you lately.
Your wins, big and small, are the reason why I do what I do, and why the studio exists.
I love watching you get stronger and more confident. I love seeing you surprise yourself with something you were convinced you couldn’t do. I love adding another spring when I know you can handle it, even if you give me a look that says you strongly disagree. (or several looks). 😂 and I really love seeing the little changes turn into bigger ones that actually make a difference in your life outside of the studio.
I keep Balanced small because I want to get to know you. Even in a group class, I’m learning your body, your goals, what works for you, what doesn’t, when something needs to be changed and when you’re ready for a little more.
I care about your progress. I want to know about the wins, even the ones that might seem tiny. Sometimes its about the wins you didn't even know you needed until it happened.
I want you to feel supported when something is hard and proud of yourself when something that used to be hard suddenly isn’t.
More than anything, I want Balanced to be a place where you feel looked after and encouraged to grow.
Somewhere you can work hard, laugh, ask questions, need a modification without feeling weird about it, celebrate each other, make friends and actually enjoy coming to take care of yourself.
There is room here for the person who wants to be pushed and the person who needs a little extra care.
The person who loves exercise and the person who is still deciding.
The person feeling great and the person who really just wants their body to stop complaining every time they move.
All of it is welcome here. I want the studio to be your safe space to celebrate, complain, laugh, sigh in frustration (usually at me). A place to move freely, and feel better.
So if you’ve heard of Balanced or thought about Pilates before and decided it probably wasn’t really for you, I hope you’ll take another look and give me a chance to change your mind.
It might be more for you than you realize, and I’d really love to show you what I do here.
