2026 AQHA/APHA gray c**t, ❗️A LEGIT SURPRISE ❗️ aka Benjamin, by Legitness, and out of PMP Itchy Bumm.

This c**t has a long history, so buckle up because this is going to be a long one.

We'll start with the good:
Benjamin is by the sire, Legitness, who has earnings in excess of $30,000 and was an NRHA Open Futurity finalist, NRBC Non-Pro Derby Finalist, and winner of the 2025 Calgary Stampede Reining Showcase.
Legitness is a direct son of SG Frozen Enterprise who has over $270,000 in earnings, and OE just shy of $6Million making him a $5Million dollar sire, soon to be a $6Million dollar sire. He was also the 2015 NRBC Open Champion and Cactus Classic Open Derby Champion, the 2014 AQHA World Champion in Jr. Reining, and the 2012 Italian RHA Futurity Champion, not to mention his many reserve champion titles as well.
Legitness is out of the dam Whizzen for Chex who earned over $60,000 and was a High Roller Reining Classic Open Futurity Co-Reserve Champion and NRHA Open Derby finalist.

Just off Benjamin's papers on his maternal side is Smart Little Lena who was the 1982 NCHA champion, as well as the NCHA Triple Crown Champion in 1982 and 1983, and had LTE in excess of $700,000. His papers also go back to Shining Spark who is both an NRHA and NRCHA $4Million dollar sire, as well as Reminic who has NCHA LTE over $90,000 and is an NRHA million dollar sire.

Benjamin is a sweet c**t and has been very well handled! He is also gelded, vaccinated, and dewormed.

Now for the bad:
Benjamin was born with carpus valgus which mostly corrected on his own, however he's had a few other bumps in the road. At a few weeks old he started posturing odd on his right hind leg. He never showed lameness, but would set it down odd on occassion. As he got older and grew more, the odd posturing stopped but that fetlock developed a bit of a bump. Around this time his front right leg was reverting and becoming less straight.

We ended up taking him to an equine surgeon for assessment and they found an old, small fracture in the right hind fetlock which caused the bump, making everything look a bit off, but said the joint itself was aligned and the growth plate was closed, so although it looks weird it shouldn't cause him any issues as a performance horse.
As for his front right, he did have some deviation in the fetlock so a surgical screw was placed to correct it. At time of removal his fetlock had 0 degree of deviation and the growth plate is closed, so no issues there, however his knee that was previously at 0 degree is now at 2.5 degree deviation. The growth plates in the knees don't close until 2 years of age, so the surgeon recommended letting him grow and mature before deciding if it would need correction, as there is a fair chance it will corect on its own.
Overall, the surgeon gave him a good prognosis for being a performance horse, and an excellent prognosis for being a pleasure riding horse.

After surgery we had an issue with the sutures letting go and have been keeping his leg bandaged to avoid proud flesh formation as well as infection, so his front right leg in the photos look a bit discolored from having bandages on 24/7 for several weeks. But it's healing up great and showing nothing concerning.

At this age weanlings look inherently gangly, and because Benjamin looks like he was put together with spare parts we know he's not a particularly desireable choice at the moment.
I am confident that growth and muscle will turn this ugly duckling into a swan and he will be a fantastic partner for someone one day, and he may even become nice to look at! But for now his personality has to do a lot of heavy lifting, which thankfully it does.

He are being very realistic about how he looks and how that limits him in the market, but we are also happy to hold onto him until he's more presentable if the right home doesn't come along.

He is priced at 4️⃣5️⃣0️⃣0️⃣ CAD, located by Tangent, AB.
Hauling across Canadada and into the US can be easily arranged.

Our first stud chosen for the 2027 season is Dun It Till I Shined ✨
And we have him paired up with our herd matriarch, DiamondsOnTheHorizon, (Fran).

What makes this cross SO exciting for me?

Fran is one of my heart horses, the first horse I trained on my own, and she is the definition of trainable. She passes on her trainable mind to her foals, the type where you can turn them out for a month and they'll come back the same as the last day you worked with them. She is also gorgeous, talented, non-pro friendly, and throws just the right amount of splash on all her babies.

And then there's the stallion, Dun It Till I Shined. The Hollywood Dun It bloodline is one of my absolute favorites, being trainable, non-pro friendly, and obviously gorgeous, and this stallion is a direct son. I was lucky enough to own one of his offspring, the 3 year old buckskin mare that we sold this summer, Indy. As more and more of his offspring are starting their riding careers we're seeing the same thing: trainable minds and beautiful builds.

I have high hopes for this cross. Pairing a truly special mare with an equally special stallion has the potential for a remarkable foal.

Possible color combinations are:
- buckskin
- buckskin splash
- palomino
- palomino splash
- smoky black
- smoky black splash
Any of these colors will be amazing, but I would be ecstatic for a buckskin splash 🤞🏻 knowing Fran, she will do her best to make it to order

We have our first mare booked for 2027, and to say I'm excited about this one is an understatement.
This is a cross I've been wanting to create for years, and now that I'm going to try dealing with frozen, we are going to give it a try!

Can you guess the stallion and mare?

Hint: this cross has a high probability of a buckskin splash foal 👀

Looking forward to our 2027 Gunna Stop X Shesa Concealed Gun foal!
I'd almost bet money that Molly gives me something with 0 chrome, but it'll be fancy regardless 😍

It's that time of year where we all see the "blanket or not blanket" discussions come up.

Some people feel that horses are built to live outside year round and do not require blankets. Other people feel "If I'm cold, they're cold" and keep a blanket on all winter. I land somewhere in the middle.

Blanket the horse, not the weather.

Some of my horses will be out in -30°C with wind and snow blowing and they are totally fine. Others need help if the snow is too wet or the wind is too strong or the temperature drops too much. Grace is a perfect example. We had rain yesterday and light snow today, and although the temperature is hanging around that +1° C mark, she was shivering. She does not have the same excess body fat as the other horses, her coat seems to take longer to fluff up, and she is bottom of the pecking order so if anyone is getting kicked out of the shelter, it's her. Wet rain and snow that gets down to the skin cools her off quick, and while all of the other horses were fluffy and content, she was shivering.

Would I normally blanket as temperatures above freezing? No. Would she have been "fine" if I left her naked? Yes. But do I want to make sure my horses are thriving and not just surviving? 100%.

I want my horses to have as natural of a life experience as I can give them, but I also want to listen to the science and provide my horses with what they need to thrive.

Briar is loaded up and starting his long journey to Quebec. It's always hard to watch them leave, but I think he's found a great home ❤️
Best of luck to his new owners, Roxanne Fortin and Ced Fafard, we are so excited to see what the future holds!
