The Tango Foundation🤝🏼 The Star on 54th
We thought we would pop on and give some insight to how the Tango Foundation is involved with . The LDS Church donated the STAR on 54th building, a 26,000 square foot historic building from the 1920’s, to Tango Foundation at no charge.
The intent was that it be used for a community arts and recreation facility. For tax purposes it had to be donated to an established Canadian charity. The was able to act as the receiving charity. The Society for Taber Arts and Recreation(STAR) is a newer charity that had been developed in the past few years to help find and operate a building for Arts and Recreation. However, STAR did not have charitable status, at the time, and so could not receive the building donation. As a result, owns and has a small HQ office space in the building and STAR will operate all the activities of the STAR on 54th building. Gratefully, we have now secured Canadian Charitable status for STAR as well!
The will house a gymnasium, office spaces, a community theatre for plays, movies, concerts and other performances. It will also house the STAR Gym, a premium 4500 square foot boxing and Fitness Centre. Our own local, Joel Mills, a former professional boxer, is the executive director of the facility with STAR.
We have been working hard to get the STAR on 54th open, the renovations will cost about 1.5 million and we are so proud to say that thanks to this community who have financially supported the project and provided many hours of volunteer support. We are about half way through the project, with phase 1 — the STAR Gym boxing and fitness Center —to open in the next coming weeks!
We have a lot of exciting news being announced shortly, make sure to share with your friends and give both and a follow!
