So well deserved. Congrats to my friend , mentor and sensei.
Good evening judo community,
Sensei Dave Anderson has been a fixture in the Maritime Judo scene for over 60 years. He's been a sensei and judo mentor to many judoka over the years.
His 60+ years of judo dedication goes without saying; from being the Chief Instructor at several clubs, training numerous black belts, and holding several administrative positions with Judo NS and Judo NB.
Sensei Dave has held a deep understanding of the judo's principles, philosophy, and discipline, including a deep understanding of the foundations of kata.
His leadership and mentorship in NB and NS has been prevalent throughout the years. Sensei Dave has truly established himself as a valued organization builder at the club level and at the provincial level in both NS and NB.
He has had past close association with the following clubs over the years, Stadacona Judo Club, Azuma Judo Club, Pictou Judo Club, Port Elgin Judo, Bridgewater Judo and of course LC Judo Club to name a few.
Sensei Dave has held several provincial administration posts in both NS and NB. He has been President of Judo NB and a member of NB Referee Committee.
In NS Sensei Dave has been President, VP, and Treasurer over the years. Most recently he was the Chair of the NS Grading Committee.
He also served two terms as a member of Judo Canada Board of Directors, was a National "B" Referee, and served as a NB Coach and later a NS Manager for The Canada Winter Games.
Sensei Dave has a very strong passion for kata: nage-no-kata, katame-no-kata, Ju-no-kata, go-no-sen-no-kata, and his favorite, Kodokan Goshin Jutsu.
At eighty-three years old Dave has continued to be LC Judo Club's Chief Instructor. Though he was slowing down, he still came out twice a week; with a specific focus on teaching proper footwork, hand placement, balance, and overall body movement. Sensei Dave also made teaching kata a focus of our club.
We are saddened to announce Sensei Dave's retirement from judo.
However, at the same time with his retirement from judo, we are very proud and excited to formally announce and to recognize his accomplishments that Sensei Dave has been formally graded by Judo Canada to Rokudan.
Please join us in congratulating Sensei Dave on his achievement.
Yours in Judo,
Corey Rogers
President LC Judo
