Hi Everyone!

Congrats to the 5 team’s who participated in this last Sunday’s Pac Cup tournament.

This was Softball City’s first tournament post-COVID, and they were extremely complimentary of how the teams carried themselves during the tournament.

A special shoutout to WESA Member Jordie Johnson for volunteering his time to ensure all players and spectators completed necessary Covid paperwork at the venue entrance. A big thank you to David Rohrer as well for teaching me the ropes in organizing my first softball tourney.

Mark your calendars, as next year’s 2021 Pac Cup tourney is already scheduled for Memorial weekend (i.e. May 29-30). To our American friends, this represents a long weekend for you, and we hope that the US/Canadian border will be long open by then so that you can join us for our annual tournament. 🙂

Thanks!

Hi All,

This year's event is now officially confirmed as a 1 day tournament on Sept. 6, and I will be sending out registration details to the 5 teams who've previously confirmed within the next few days.

In order to comply with COVID-related rules & restrictions, this year's event is considered an extension of WESA's Summer Ball season and shall be referred to as "Summer Ball Playoffs". As well, given this year's COVID-related restrictions, we are no longer able to accept additional teams into this event.

If you are interested in participating but do not have a team, you are welcome to add you name to the matchmaker list when registration opens via the WESA website on Sunday, August 23. Once you've submitted your name, I will share your name via the Matchmaker list with the confirmed team Coaches. However, just a friendly reminder that it remains the Coach's choice regarding whether or not to reach out to you to invite you to play if they are looking for additional players for their team.

If you have any questions, please email me at [email protected].

Thanks!

Peter Haughton
Vice Commissioner, WESA

Hi All,

I'm writing now to provide another update for those of you who are interested in participating in PAC Cup 2020.

For those who are interested, Softball City has indicated that is possible to move forward with this event under the following COVID-related special conditions:

-teams enter the facility no more than 15 minutes before games
-no loitering in the facility area outside of game play and/or Softball city can arrange designated seating on the patio for teams waiting to play in between games
-likely no food or drinks for sale
-little or no spectators allowed

Given these restrictions, I've been communicating Vancouver's usual lgbt softball Coaches/Team Representatives to clarify if there's enough interest to move forward with this year's event, and 5 teams have indicated their interest to pariticpate in this year's PAC Cup while adhering to the special rules as outlined above. As such, I'm currently in follow up communications with Softball City with the goal to get final confirmation to proceed with this event as a 1 day tournament on Sunday, September 6. Once I have more details (including team registration information), I will share it with the WESA Community and Friends via our WESA and PAC Cup pages.

If you have any additional questions, feel free to email me at [email protected].

Thanks!

Vice Commissioner, WESA

Hi All,

Now that WESA's modified "Summer Ball" season has started, I wanted to share an update with everyone regarding PAC Cup.

As per recent conversations Softball City, Softball City continues to wait for approval from the City of Surrey to start operating tournaments again. However, they are optimistic that they will receive good new in this area within the next few weeks. As such, I will continue to stay in close touch with them and provide updates to the WESA community as I receive them.

For now, registration for PAC Cup remains closed. If Softball City receives all of the necessary approvals within the next few weeks to host PAC Cup, then your WESA Commission will re-open PAC Cup registration at that time and notify the WESA community accordingly.

I'm also aware that many WESA Members are currently looking to solidify their plans for the Sept. 5-6 labor days weekend, and whether or not PAC Cup takes place factors into those decisions. As such, I will continue to share timely updates regarding the status of the PAC cup tournament as I receive them.

Thanks!

Peter Haughton
Vice Commissioner, WESA
