Q. Is kendo expensive? A. Do you use real swords? No. Q.

Kendo meaning “the way of the Sword”, is a modern Japanese martia artl of sword-fighting based on traditional Japanese swordmanship or kenjitsu. Kendo is a physically and mentally
challenging activity that combines strong martial arts values with sport-like physical elements. While we do our best to keep the price down, there are some costs associated with practicing kendo. Please message the club

and we can give you the cost breakdown

Q. When playing against an opponent we use a practice sword called a shinai (bamboo sword) and when practicing kata, we use a boken (wooden sword)

Q. Is kendo a hard sport to learn? Kendo is a martial art and as such is physically demanding and it will take time to learn all the aspects of kendo. That being said, kendo can be learned by everyone. Do I need to know how to speak Japanese? While commands are given in Japanese, you will be able to learn them as you go.

Have you seen these signs around town? 🔥 🔥 We are just one day away from the start of the Canadian National Kendo Championships. Thank you to Cityscapes Displays for your generous sponsorship of signs and banners. They are amazing!! Admission is free and we welcome spectators to come cheer on our athletes!!

Club registration and Shinai weigh-in starts at 6PM at . The AGM starts at 7:30PM at the HQ Hotel. See you all there!

If you’re walking around town in Toronto, try looking up☝️! Vibrant street banners can be seen all around Toronto promoting the upcoming Canadian National Kendo Championships. The banners can be spotted on 9 streets and 30 poles in the city. We encourage you to snap a photo of the banners and tag to show your support and excitement for the Championships. The banner was designed by Andrea Masuda from Renshin Kendo Dojo. Her dynamic design won the design competition held by Kendo Ontario.

Des bannières de rue vibrantes peuvent être vues partout à Toronto pour promouvoir les prochains championnats nationaux canadiens de kendo. Les bannières peuvent être repérées sur 9 rues et 30 poteaux de la ville.
