PELVIC FLOOR DYSFUNCTION -
Some common symptoms are (but not limited to):
- leaking (this can happen when you’re coughing, laughing, working out, or just in your everyday life)
- bladder issues (I.e., sudden urge for needing to p*e, pain while p*eing, not being able to release your bladder fully, etc.)
- constipation
- pain during s*x
- lower back pain
- abdominal and/or re**um pressure
- painful periods
- muscle spasms or pain in your pelvis
If you are experiencing ANY of these symptoms, know that it can be fixed!
No, it’s not “normal” and you do not need to just “live with it” and it surely is not something that “just happens” after having babies.
My top pieces of advice would be (and even if you’re not experiencing any symptoms, these are still great suggestions):
- book a doctors appointment and ask for a referral for a pelvic floor physiotherapist
- follow through and book your initial assessment and attend all other necessary appointments (you will learn SO much!!!)
- learn how to do a deep abdominal breath properly. This is crucial in ensuring that your pelvic floor can function optimally! (If you need help with this, reach out! I can guide you through it).
- find workouts that are pelvic floor/prenatal/postnatal safe! (Barre is great for this because all exercises are low impact but I will be launching a workout program designed specifically for women who are needing to work on their pelvic floor muscles/deep abdominal muscles a little bit more, so stay tuned!
I’m always available to chat if you have further questions! I have been through this before and it’s not fun dealing with these symptoms. You’re not alone! 🤍
