So I’ve let it sink in a bit and now I can type without crying hahaha. When I first was asked to be the manager of this team I was hesitant, I don’t know enough about hockey I thought to myself, I’ve never been a team sport person, I’m very busy at my job, I don’t know if I can deal with other people’s problems and everything that comes with it. But something inside me told me to give it a try what’s the worst that can happen. Well let me tell you, being the manager of this team for me was life changing, I know that sounds silly, a U11 hockey team life changing well it was, I’ve grown in ways I couldn’t even imagine.
A mom to a singleton child gained 16 more kids, 16 more hearts to hold dear, 16 more bags to check, 16 more little ones to hug when they are happy and console when they are sad. I also gained 16 more families in my corner, we cheered together, worried together, partied together and parented together. I gained 3 more hockey buddies than I ever had before Coach Tommy, Chris and Steve I was one of them, they taught me more about hockey than i could have ever wished for and i’m so grateful.
I’ve got more social media experience than i ever thought possible along side a dear friend and fierce media manager Georgia - our laughs creating and reviewing posts was always a delight.
Our broadcast team Dennis and Maurice - your hard work reached so many and meant more to people than I even realized - I appreciate you.
If you asked me yesterday if so was going to do this again next year I would have said and I think I did say hell no I’m tired.
But today there is a fullness in my heart that I’m not sure i’m ready to let go….so you might not have seen the last of me!
U11C Team and Coaches, you are incredible and you have given me more joy and fulfillment than I ever thought possible from a kids sports team. I love you dearly and I’m incredibly proud of you.
Thanks for having me
Manager Jen xoxo
