The Rock Kendo & Iaido Club

The Rock Kendo & Iaido Club Kendo translates into English as 'way of the sword'. Kendo, like all martial arts, is a means through which individuals strengthen their minds and their bodies.

Kendo is the traditional Japanese martial art of sword-fighting derived from the bushi (samurai) art of kenjutsu, it is a type of full-contact fencing, focusing on mind and body conditioning. The concept of Kendo is "...a way to discipline the human character through the application of the principles of the katana". By using Shinai (bamboo swords), the Kendoka (practitioner) is able to learn techn

iques that would have been applied using live-blade (sharp) swords. Today, Kendo is practiced all around the world and has become as much a competitive sport as it is a martial art. In Canada, we as a club are affiliated with the Canadian Kendo Federation. There is also an International Kendo Federation which governs the martial art worldwide. We meet at the St. Andrew's Elementary Sundays, Mondays, and Wednesdays, so feel free to drop by and see if Kendo is for you!

A quick notice that there will be no classes this evening, August 24th, as the school floors are being refinished. Classes will go ahead starting the 26th with kendo.

Between weather, injury, and a lot of students unable to attend tonight, I will be cancelling tonight's class (not an April fools joke just FYI).

Also, there will be no kids classes on Easter Sunday. A short adult session may go ahead.

Just a reminder that we are now on Christmas break, classes will resume in January with our first session back being kendo on the 7th.
