Looking forward to two fireside chats I'm moderating today.

1) With 2 exceptional superstar alumni at Verisult - they'll be sharing their journey to landing amazing jobs and thriving in their career at the Get Hired Bootcamp today (www.verisult.com/gethired)

2) With my best girl, Dr. Tolu discussing all about Getting In and Growing in Government on the Career Talk with Ogaga Johnson show today (bit.ly/CareerTalkwithOgaga).

Looking forward to both. Let's go!!!

A win for me last week into this week was restarting my PMP Exam Prep Training Program! 💃🏾🥳
www.verisult.com/pmp

I had paused the program for almost two years, so it feels really good to be back!

And teaching the PMP exam preparation course again reminded me of why I fell in love with teaching project management in the first place.

It's the joy of seeing professionals gain the knowledge, skills, and confidence they need to grow their project management careers.

There's something so fulfilling about being part of that journey.

So excited to be doing this again!

What's your win this week?

This Saturday on Career Talk with Ogaga Johnson, I’ll be joined by Dr. Tolu Akerele for a conversation on:

Getting In and Growing in Government

We’ll talk about:

What helped her move from her first job into a planner role

How she kept her dream career in view while working in a job she didn’t really enjoy

How she landed a government planning role without Canadian education in a specialized field with relatively few professionals in Newfoundland and Labrador

How to position yourself for government roles

How to build credibility internally

How to understand unwritten organizational dynamics

How to advocate for yourself without stepping on toes

How to continue growing professionally while balancing something as demanding as a PhD

⏰ 3 PM Eastern

I get a lot of people coming to me for career guidance.

But sometimes, when we dig deeper into the kind of jobs they should be applying for, I realize there is another layer to the conversation.

For some people, it is not just about getting a job.

It is about getting the right kind of work experience that supports their pathway to Permanent Residency in Canada.

And that is where I stop, because immigration is not my area of expertise.

But thankfully, my best girl is an immigration expert. 😊

So for this week’s Career Talk with Ogaga Johnson, I have invited Joy Osazuwa, popularly known as Mrs. O, to help us unpack this important topic:

Building Canadian Work Experience That Counts Toward PR

This session is especially for you if:

* You recently graduated and you are trying to figure out what kind of job to pursue
* You are currently on a work permit and thinking about your pathway to PR
* You are wondering whether your current work experience actually counts
* You want to make more informed career decisions while also considering your immigration goals

Joy will help us understand what to pay attention to when choosing roles and building Canadian work experience, so that your career decisions are aligned with your longer-term immigration plans.

If staying in Canada and becoming a Permanent Resident is part of your goal, you do not want to miss this conversation.

Come with your questions.

30 days. One goal: get hired.

Applying to 100 jobs isn't a strategy. Swipe for the 5 steps I'd follow if I had to land a job this month. 👉🏾

Want help putting this into action? Our 7-day Get Hired Bootcamp starts this Saturday. Link in bio: www.verisult.com/gethired

If you had just 30 days, what would be your #1 priority? Tell me below. 👇🏾

I was having a conversation with a newcomer who had spent years building and running a confectionery business before moving to Canada.

But someone told her she had to “start again.”

(Swipe to read full story)

So she did.

She removed the business from her story. Stopped talking about it. Almost treated those years as though they had never happened.

Until I started probing.

Then she casually mentioned that she had owned and operated a business for years.

I almost screamed.

What?!

You mean you have experience in:

- Customer service.
- Sales and business development.
- Supplier and vendor management.
- Inventory management.
- Budgeting and cost control.
- Marketing.
- Operations.
- Problem-solving.
- Client relationship management.

And depending on how she ran the business, potentially hiring, training and managing people too.

That is experience.

She may not be ready to start another business in Canada, and she doesn't have to.

But she could absolutely position that experience for roles such as Operations Coordinator or Business Operations Manager, with a value proposition like:

“I bring hands-on experience managing the day-to-day operations of a growing business, including customers, suppliers, inventory, sales and costs. I know how to solve problems, work with limited resources and keep operations moving.”

Now we have something to work with.

Dear immigrant,

- You may need to learn again.
- You may need to adapt again.
- You may need to prove yourself again.

But you are not starting from nothing.

Your previous experience did not suddenly lose its value because you crossed a border.

Sometimes, what you need is help translating that experience into language the Canadian job market understands.

And this is one of my favourite things about teaching the Get Hired Bootcamp.

For 7 days, we dig deep into your experience, uncover the value you may be overlooking, clarify your unique career value proposition, and package and position it to get hired.

Our next Get Hired cohort starts this Saturday, and I’m already excited about the success stories that will come from this group.

A little recap from last Saturday’s Career Talk with Ogaga Johnson ❤️

We had such a great conversation about career growth, positioning yourself for bigger opportunities, and challenging the belief that you always have to start from scratch.

This week, we’re switching gears to Building Canadian Work Experience That Counts Toward PR with a special guest 💃 (can you guess the special guest?)

If you’re a student, recent graduate, on a work permit, or thinking about how your career choices connect with your PR goals, this is for you.
