The Squamish Windsport Society would like to recognize and thank our staff for their quick and professional response to the incident on August 26, 2026. We would also like to acknowledge SWS member Will L for his important role in assisting with the response.
We are pleased to report that everyone involved in the incident is doing okay.
This incident is a serious reminder that every rider must remain fully aware of their surroundings while on the water. Before jumping, tacking, or jibing, riders must perform a proper shoulder check and confirm that they have adequate space to complete the manoeuvre safely. Never assume the area behind or downwind of you is clear.
Member safety is our highest priority. Dangerous kitingโincluding unsafe riding around the rescue boat or jet skis, or jumping within one line length of another riderโwill not be tolerated. When a memberโs actions put others at risk, the Society will take appropriate disciplinary action.
We ask every member to ride responsibly, respect the space of others, and help us maintain a safe environment for everyone on the water.
