Had the pleasure of heading down to to take part in the salmon allocation town hall hosted by .
The room was packed and spilling onto the patio with local families, outdoor enthusiasts, conservationists, and business owners — all of whom will be severely affected if our public ownership and priority access to salmon are challenged. The Department of Fisheries and Oceans is currently under pressure to eliminate the principle of common property from its salmon allocation policy, putting our shared rights as Canadians to access and benefit from our public salmon fishery at risk.
Canadian ownership and our public right to fish are charter-protected values we all share. Now more than ever, we need to stand united to preserve and protect access for current and future generations.
Here’s how you can help:
• Write to or meet with your local MP
• Write to Minister of Fisheries Joanne Thompson to express your concerns
• Personalize your emails and letters — share your history, livelihood, and connection to salmon fishing
