Hey skippers!

Final race day is this Sunday — and it’s a pursuit race!

No worries if you haven’t been out yet — family cruisers and one-time racers are welcome! A single race is $25. If you’ve already paid $100 for the series, or raced 4 nights at $25 each, there are no additional fees.

A pursuit race means no hectic start line — every boat gets its own start time. The finish could be a little busier though 😄
(Planning for a race to Defense and back for a SOAR home team practice! 😉)

Registration is mandatory so we can calculate your start time. First boat starts at 12:30 PM, with start times published by course. Please visit the Club Racing page to register and get the SI amendments.

After the race, join us for a wind-up party on the docks — crew, family, members, and non-members are all welcome.

BYOB: Bring Your Own BBQ & Refreshments
Bring:

- Something to BBQ
- Something to share
- Your bevie of choice

We’ll have plates, cutlery, etc. Brad hopes boats will be in around 1500h, and we’ll find space for non-club boats during the party.

See you Sunday for a beautiful day on the water!

SOAR registration is now open!!!!!!!

Some say that it is the best kept secret on the West Coast, but it is definitely the regatta with the most consistent winds, most spectacular venue, and voted the best party in the Pacific Northwest.

04/14/2026

Construction and commissioning of the operable pedestrian bridge over the Mamquam Blind Channel are ongoing. These works may temporarily restrict navigation through the designated channel. The bridge includes operable spans across the navigation corridor and may be either open (navigation permitted) or lowered (restricted for tall vessels).

Outside of working hours, the bridge will generally remain in the open position. During construction hours, the bridge may be lowered without notice to facilitate work. Marine users should plan transit accordingly and always proceed with caution within the work zone. Vessels unable to safely pass beneath the bridge in the lowered position must request an opening in advance.

Contact Methods for Bridge Access and Opening Requests:
Verbal or signalled communication with the construction crew at the bridge site
VHF Channel 13 (Primary – monitored during working hours)
Construction Manager / Bridge Operator: 250-241-0886
Superintendent / Secondary Operator: 604-312-2324

Bridge openings will be completed as soon as reasonably practicable, subject to safety constraints.

Navigation Guidance
Vessels with sufficient clearance may pass under the bridge at their own discretion. All vessels shall proceed at safe speed, maintain continuous lookout and be prepared to yield to construction operations. Delays should be expected during working hours (typically 7:30 AM to 7:00 PM, Monday to Saturday).

All marine users must exercise extreme caution when navigating through the construction area and comply with posted signage and instructions from site personnel.

Please distribute this notice to anyone that may be affected by this work.

Thanks,

First VARC event of the year! SYC's SOAR is part of this fantastic race circuit. SYC also has several members who race in Strait's every year on several different boats - Excited to see Pac High as an SYC entry this year! ⛵️

Have you registered yet to receive 25% off the registration fee?! Do so before February 1st and join the 16 boats who already have!

We have 6 boats registered on the Entrance Island Course (including two double handlers), 1 boat on each the Halibut Bank and Inshore Courses and 8 boats on the Sisters Islets Course ORC!

We wanted to hi-light the return of our Halibut Bank Course for those sailors not wanting to commit to crossing the Strait but want more of a challenge than our Inshore Course:

➡️ it’s a 36 NM Course for PHRF divisions which will also include Double Handed scoring and awards, OSR Category 4 safety regulations, and a Friday sunset time limit

➡️ Last year, we had 12 boats registered on this course, let’s beat that! With an earlier start time than last year for all boats (30 minutes) and a reverse start order (Halibut goes first), as well as a later sunset time, we’re confident that you’ll be able to get that great finish you’re looking for!

For all boats in the Classic Courses who register early, they will be entered to win an early bird prize.

Sound enticing? Head over to southernstraits.ca and register today!
