Remembering Darin Wood

Remembering Darin Wood Remembering Darin Wood, our brother, son, friend, mentor and coach. Darin was a maverick and a force to be reckoned with. Darin always gave to those around him.

He was in a sweet spot, having accomplished so much in his short but full 35 years. Childhood highlights were filled with spending time at the farm with his grandparents. This time proved to be an anchor and instilled in him the importance of family, community and sparked his curiosity for learning. Darin took on any challenge with tenacity and perseverance. He was a gifted athlete & from a young

age, he had an affinity for soccer, dirt biking, lacrosse & hockey. He was impressing hockey scouts & with the prospect of Juniors in his sights, a life-altering accident left him a quadriplegic at the age of 17. Facing impossible circumstances, Darin never gave up and was more determined than ever. His veracity fueled his advocacy for change and his integrity to stand up for his beliefs never wavering. Despite being in a chair, he became an avid outdoorsman, hunter, and marksman. He took his knowledge and mastery of the game and became an inspirational AAA hockey coach inspiring 100s of young hockey players. He was a lifelong learner and his depth of curiosity and knowledge of countless subjects was unmatched and fueled his passions, but above all, one of Darin's greatest gifts was connecting with others.

It doesn’t get easier after two years. We just miss you more. 🩶 We get better at feeling numb or at keeping distracted, but when we’re left in the silence, it’s as devastating as it was 2 years ago. We can still hear your unmistakable laugh and see that smile in our mind’s eye. Faith tells us that death isn’t the end of the relationship, that you’re still looking down and watching your nephews and niece grow. I know if we could still see and hear you you’d be laughing your ass off at your niece’s tenacity and you’d be your nephews’ biggest fan and the best coach. We know you’ve been at every practice, every game. Sometimes the grief takes over and it blurs our faith as the tears fill our eyes, but you were a man of faith and you’d want us to keep our hearts focused on the knowing that one day we will all be together again. In the meantime, thanks for continuing to look out for us. We love and miss you so much, son, brother, uncle, nephew, coach, friend. The world is still a better place because you were in it and because of your impact on us all. We love you, Darin.
