Hello Rat Pack!

It’s been awhile… and we’ve missed you all!
We hope everyone is as excited to get back out on the water as we are!

However, it is with heavy hearts that we post this message…

River Rat Rentals will unfortunately be on hiatus this paddle season.
The last year has brought about many changes for us.

On one hand, Cassie began teaching full-time - and she absolutely LOVES it!

On the other hand, Caleigh has been dealing with health challenges - and is on a very long and winding road of recuperation.

We have made this decision to not open this summer after much thought and consideration.
It is not what we want to do, but what we need to do for ourselves and our families at this time.

We are SO grateful for all of the love and support our customers and community have shown us the last 3 (!!!) years.

This little Mama-run operation truly fills our cup, and brings us SO much joy.

We plan to be back next summer, for all of your outdoor adventure needs!

Saturday, September 30th
In recognition of the
National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

If you are able, please participate in the Brandon Urban Aboriginal Peoples' Council Orange Shirt Day Walk on Treaty 2 territory in Brandon, MB.
Teachings begin at 10:00 am at the Riverbank Discovery Centre.

However,

WE MUST PARTICIPATE IN RECONCILIATORY ACTION ALL YEAR.

Here are some places to start:
- READ THE TRC 94 CALLS TO ACTION - only 13 of the 94 have been completed since the report was released in 2015. This is UNACCEPTABLE.

- watch and/or listen to many of the FREE documentaries/films/podcasts on CBC Gem, YouTube, NFB.ca, CBC Listen, Spotify, etc - such as Still Here, Still Healing (podcast), Stolen: Surviving St. Michael’s (podcast), Kuper Island (podcast), Inendi, We Were Children, Stories Are in Our Blood, and Bones of Crows.

*NOTE: Rentals must be booked no later than 5 pm the day of. This allows us enough time to prepare our fleet! 😊

We LOVE these Wednesday Paddles, and can’t wait to reunite with all of you lovely folx! We ALWAYS welcome any new recruits as well! ✨

Hi there folks,

❄️We finally have SNOW! ❄️

We are excited to see the snow building up and we are going to host a River Rats pop-up this Sunday to kick off the winter rental season! The RRR Winter Warm-Up!

Come on down to the bowl, check out some of our winter offerings and take a pair of snowshoes for a spin! We will have a fire to warm up by and some festive goodies for snacking too.

There is much winter fun to be had and we can’t wait to get started. Hope to see you there!

- Participate & attend National Day for Truth and Reconciliation activities in your area. Westman folks: Brandon Urban Aboriginal Peoples’ Council has had a multitude of activities held throughout the week. There is a walk today at the Riverbank Discovery Centre. Meet at 1 pm, depart at 2 pm.

What a Wonderful Paddle Season!

We’re not done quite yet, but we wanted to take a moment to thank our renters and community for the INCREDIBLE summer we had! However, the Rat Pack will be taking a well-deserved break, and we will be closed for the long weekend. We appreciate your understanding!

We are so grateful that so many of you chose us to get you out on the water, exploring the historic Souris River and all that nature has to offer. We’ve met so many incredible humans, and have had so many wonderful return renters! THANK YOU for your amazing support. We love what we do!

We also need to thank our Mini Rats
and Papa Rats - they are always on call, and we couldn’t do it without their love and assistance!

We’ll be putting away the paddleboards, party island, and water mat this weekend. However, canoes and kayaks will still be available until October! We will be reassessing our season after that, as the days get shorter and temperatures begin to drop.

Additionally, our Fall/Winter hours will now be in effect:

Mon-Fri: upon inquiry
Sat/Sun: 10 am - 5 pm
Holidays: Closed

Stay tuned, as we get ready to launch our winter fleet! We’re so excited to share our love of the outdoors with Westman and area, all year long!

What a wonderful kick-off to our Wild Womxn Season - with a refreshing rain shower and double rainbow to finish it off!

Our turnout was incredible - and we can’t wait to see who else joins in as we continue on!

We definitely missed the presence of our fearless leader and can’t wait for her to join us again!

The general consensus was that this should be a weekly gathering, so we’re giving the people what they want! 🎉

We look forward to seeing more and more folx come out and join us for these joy-filled paddles every Wednesday, as weather permits! Keep your eyes peeled to our social posts and stories for further updates!
