10 Years of OPA

“For years, I thought certain numbers defined my health.

My age. (62)
The number on the scale.

But OPA and the coaches taught me to look at numbers differently.

Now I look at the numbers on the weights.

The numbers in the workouts that once seemed impossible:
150 air squats.
100 burpees.
100 pushups.

And somehow… with the right people beside you… those numbers become fun.

Can I lift 120 pounds?
Sure can.
In a Front Squat.

Which also means carrying 40 pounds of groceries suddenly feels a whole lot easier.

The numbers that define my health now are much more interesting.”

That perspective shift changes everything.

Not chasing smaller.
Not chasing less.

Becoming more capable.
More confident.
More resilient.

And maybe the best number of all?

982

Not an age.
Not a goal weight.

982 classes attended.

That’s consistency.
That’s commitment.
That’s a life changed one class at a time.

Thanks for being part of 10 years of OPA , we are lucky to have you. 💚

Sometimes it’s the smallest moments that end up meaning the most.

While waiting to start her first class, Stephanie struck up a conversation with Josh, who she had just met.

At the time, it felt like nothing more than a quick chat before class.

But during that conversation, she mentioned her husband Kurt and realized they had something important in common.

She felt strongly that they needed to connect.

So she went home and told him,
“You need to make sure you talk to Josh.”

Within days, he showed up to a class where that same person would be.

They connected.
Grabbed coffee.
And built a friendship.

Now?

They’re best friends.

They spend time together regularly, support each other, and what started as a quick conversation has grown into something much bigger.

He’s even become part of their small business, and their partners became close as well.

All from one moment… and one introduction.

That’s the part of this place you can’t really explain until you experience it.

Are you noticing a trend yet?

Big welcome to Ryder who’s officially joining our Youth Program after completing his On-Ramp.

Ryder learned quick, worked hard, and was a ton of fun to coach right from the start. He’s excited to get stronger… although I’m pretty sure he’d be happy if he never has to do Olympic Weightlifting 😂

To be fair, I told him I hated it for my first couple years too.

We love being able to help youth build strength, confidence, discipline, and resilience both inside and outside the gym.

If you’ve got a kid who wants to get stronger, move better, build confidence, or just get off the screens and into something positive, send us a message. We’d love to help.

Stoked to have you join the OPA Fam Ryder.

In my opinion, barbell cycling has a time and place, but it’s not for newer athletes… and honestly some long time members too.

It creates poor movement patterns.

People start chasing the clock instead of quality movement.

Moving fast with bad mechanics is not intensity.

It’s ego, panic, or simply not paying attention.

The goal is not just to finish.
The goal is to move well first, then move fast.

Anyone can make themselves tired.
That’s easy.

Learning how to stay disciplined under fatigue?
That’s the skill.

The clock is not the reason to do things wrong.

Eric’s Story

“For me it’s got to be THE MOVE.

It was uplifting and motivating to see the energy and coordination of so many people descending on the place and how fast everything came together.

We cleared out one space and moved into the next in no time.

Honestly… it felt like a workout.

Lots of laughs along the way too.

What stood out the most was meeting people I normally wouldn’t cross paths with, different class times, different schedules.

That doesn’t usually happen unless it’s a party or the Open.

That day, you could really feel the community.

Great day.”

Moments like that are hard to explain unless you’ve been part of it.

“I didn’t know a single person when I walked in.”

That’s how it starts for more people than you’d think.

New to the area.
Out of routine.
Just wanting to move again.

No big expectations… just showing up.

And then over time, something shifts.

You start recognizing faces.
Conversations get easier.
You look forward to being there.

And before you know it…
it’s not just about the workout anymore.

It becomes part of your day.
Your routine.
Your people.

If you’ve been thinking about getting started, this might be your sign.

If you want to see how this played out for one of our members .george, check out the full story, link in bio.
