The research estimates that each steelhead mortality is associated with approximately $100,000 in regional economic output and one full-time job in the Skeena watershed.

These figures aren't a price tag on a fish—they're a benchmark that illustrates the economic consequences when steelhead are lost to ocean bycatch and other external pressures before they return home.

Every fish that makes it back to the Skeena supports more than a population. It supports people, businesses, and communities.

✔️ $23 million in annual regional economic output

✔️ 231 full-time jobs

✔️ A renewable, catch-and-release fishery that supports communities across Northern British Columbia.

The future of this economy depends on healthy steelhead returning home.

This is just the beginning. Over the coming weeks, we'll explore how steelhead support local jobs, and the challenges facing one of the world's greatest wild fisheries.
