If your child gets a concussion this hockey season…
Please don't automatically put them in a dark room for weeks.
A lot of parents still think concussion recovery means no screens, no activity, and complete isolation until every symptom disappears.
But recovery is more nuanced than that.
After the initial 3 to 4 days of rest following the injury…
Recovery may actually involve gradually returning to normal activity and eventually exercise.
Based on the individual athlete.
Based on what's actually going on.
Based on how they're responding.
The key is understanding what they're experiencing, why they're experiencing it, and how to progress safely.
That's why we don't just tell athletes to rest and hope things get better.
We assess them.
We build a plan.
And we help them safely return to school, activity, and eventually their sport.
Because the goal isn't just waiting out the symptoms.
It's understanding them.
Save this before hockey season starts. ⬇️
And send it to another hockey parent who needs to see this.
